I got a call from a friend who wants to help his 13 year old daughter celebrate her 1/2 birthday. This isn't something they normally do, but they thought it'd be fun. I guess her regular b-day would be in July.

I am wanting ideas on a cake. I was thinking about doing 1/2 a cake, or 1/2 of the lettering showing up, or......

I think there is a lot of potential with this theme. This girl is very girly and likes hot pink, purple, flowery, fluffy things, etc.

For the party, all the decorations will be cut in half, people will be wearing clothes that are half one color and half another color, etc....

I think you get the idea. I am wanting this cake to be so cool and to be the focal point of this 1/2 birthday party.

Thanks for your help. icon_smile.gif

Have you seen those cakes that look like a slice of cake? What if you used that same idea, but only did half the cake-make it look like the inside is showing and there are crumbs on the other half of the plate, like it was already eaten?

I will see if I can find a picture of the cake slices to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Here is a good picture of what I am talking about. On this cake they have three tiers that show the "inside" of the cake.

If you check out their site they also have another picture of just a "slice" of cake.

Hope this gives you a starting point. I can see it in my head, but many times have a hard time explaining it.

That's a great idea! I was wondering how to make it look like the insides were showing. I knew that I could ice it and cut it, and have the actual cake showing, but then I thought it might dry it out. This way I can decorate it all in icing.

Thanks!!

Any ideas on how to make the icing textured like cut cake? (Does that make sense??)

How about a sponge on the icing? I don't know, I am a novice! icon_redface.gif

That sounds like it might work. Maybe a stiff sponge???

Any other ideas out there?

Depending on how many guests, maybe several little (4") cakes and each guest could have half a cake when it came time to serve.

This sounds so cute! Another idea for the "crumb" effect might be to place a kitchen towel on the icing before it crusts and then pull it off. That might give the textured effect you're looking for. Good luck!

If it is choc. cake you could use cookie crumbs pressed into the frosting on the side.

Maybe use crushed cookie crumbs pressed into the icing?
