I've been forced to start practicing on cake dummies, because my family is full of cake. They are styroform circles..do i need to but anything over them before i start to frost them? I would like them to last..
thanks!
I use saran over mine... works so nice too ... just peel and toss when finished playing
i am very new to cake decorating and cake dummies would be awesome where can i find some
I asked the ladies at the local cake supply shop, and they have them in the back room. I have never seen them on the shelves, so maybe ask at your local bake shop.
hi to everyone... you can make your own cake dummies either with the styrofoam or with great stuff found at the hardware store. I made one with each kind. if you use styrofoam make sure you wet it good before placing fondant on it or it wont stick. with styrofoam you can use lightweight spackling to cover it. hope this helps

I use Saran wrap brand and then stick them in the microwave for a few seconds to "shrink wrap" This only works with Saran...
I just put the fondant over the wrap. Don't even use buttercream. For buttercream, I use the "practice cream" that my instructor gave us, which is just crisco, water and powdered sugar. (It tastes nasty but ices nicely!)
I heard someone else mention they use the plastic wrap you buy for gift baskets and shrink with a hair dryer. Haven't tried that myself, but would love to hear how that works!
Enjoy! I also have been forced to start making some dummy cakes as my family is also sick of cake but everyone at work has asked me to stop bringing in cake too! (they want to get rid of the holiday weight) hahahaha!
