Cupcakes Or Sheet Cake...which Would You Do?

I just wanted to get a few thoughts. My daughter's first birthday is in May (I know I'm planning way earlier, but hey that's just me). I'm thinking about doing a LadyBug theme. I've already decided that I'll make a small ladybug smash cake, but I can't decide if I should do a sheet cake for all the guest or do cupcakes with a ladybug on the top of each. Most of the guests will be adults, but I think that a couple cupcakes stands full of ladybug cupcakes would be so cute. What do you guys think?
I say do the cupcakes! They would look so cute with the ladybug theme. It seems more fun than a sheetcake! Plus, you can get creative and have a few different kinds of cupcakes, etc. Another reason I'd do it is because I'm dying to have an excuse to buy that cupcake stand by Wilton!
I think the ladybug cupcakes would look so good with the smash cake. Plus, cupcakes are fun to do.
How about a Lady Bug CCC.. There are several pics on the site to give you plenty of ideas... Good Luck!
I would go for the sheet cake. I know I go a little nuts when I'm having a party for one of my kids and stress myself out with everything I want to do. Do a cute little smash cake-great for pictures and serve the sheet cake. For my dd's birthday this summer, I was still decorating her cake as the guests were arriving LOL. Luckily we were ordering pizza for supper or people would have had to eat cake and only cake!

I agree, I'd go for either the cupcakes or the cupcake cake.
Think about it, no cutting, no cleaning!!!! everybody just grabs their own cupcake and it's done!
My daughters first is in april and I am already planning. I am using her birthday as an excuse to try the topsy turvy cake. I think it would do great with your lady bug theme. But I always tend to have way more cake than we need.
I don't want to be a party pooper,But... I have gone to partys where it has been mostly adults and it was cupcakes, they were hardly touched.
Kids love them, but adults prefer cakes. Maybe one big ladybug and several small ones?
The cupcakes sound really cute, but I'm picturing children running around with red and black icing all over their faces and clothes! Yuck. At least with a sheet cake you could cut down on this.
Sorry... it's the practical Mom in me!
How about a round cake done like a flower basket with Royal icing or fondant lady bugs on wires sticking out above them? They will look like they are flying over the flowers.
I love the cupcake idea, but I've also seen some really cute ladybug cakes. maybe do the cupcakes and have the smash cake as a ladybug cake. it's a great theme w/so many possibliies.
I think cupcakes! I really love the Wilton cupcake stand. I have the middle size and want to by the smaller one.
You can always make some royal icing lady bugs in advance to use to decorate the cupcakes. You could also through some flowers in as well, cause don't lady bugs need flowers to hang out on?
Wilton also has a candy mold with lady bugs, and that could be a do ahead option as well.
