Hey everybody! I wanted to try and make a cake look like ceramic, so, I started designing the cake and my husband commented that he thought maybe I should leave it the way it was! So I took a pic of the cake before I painted it, and then after I had painted it. Im curious which one you guys like better! Have a good weekend!

I honestly like them both. The cake looked so different after you painted it! I think you did a good job of achieving a pottery look with your painting.

I was just thinking that the before looks very bridal, while the after looks more appropriate for a birthday (or other occasion cake). It's amazing how the same cake can look so different with just a change in the finish.

If you're going for ceramic-look, I like the painted cake. It looks really great!!

pinkbunny- I think you might be mixing up which cake is which. The first pic posted is the "after" picture and the second is the "before."

If I'm just confused, feel free to ignore me! icon_smile.gif

The after gets my vote for the look you were trying to achieve. Although, they both look great. I agree with HollyPJ, how different a cake can look with just a change in the finish. Great job.

I think they both look fabulous...I love the look of the ceramic cake....but as someone else mentioned...I also love the way the flowers stand out on the other cake.
I wonder how it would look if you did the faux finish first and then applied the flowers? Hmmm....

Anyway....great work!

I like them both!! I even let my hubby and kids look at them. They thought they were both fabulous!! I also think that the before is more of a bridal look and the after is more birthday/anniversary. I would love to know how you achieved this look. Great job!

Yes both are great but I go with the after because of the look you were trying to achieve. But like adven68 said- I wonder how it would look to add the accessories aftere the painting.

Wow Great job
Also are you goin to let us know how you acheived this beauty? thumbs_up.gif

Thanks everybody, so much! I was looking at a pot on my patio and wanted to try and recreate the finish, soooooo, I intially kneaded the MMF, a kind of sea green color, then I made the flower design and applied that, then I mixed blue and black together, took a paper towel and blotted the mixture directly on the cake. I let that set and then went back with a paintbrush to make some final touches! There is so much you could do with this method, change up the colors or the designs or like you said adven, blot first and then apply the design!!

They are both gorgeous! The before reminds me of sculpting clay before it is fired. I love the boldness of the after picture. It just pops when you look at it.
