My DH just bought me an air brush and I love it but....
I have never air brushed a cake before so could some of you experts tell me what kind of food coloring do i use? i have the wilton gel colors do i just put those in it and add some water or is there something else i am suppose to use?
TIA
You can not use regular food colors you need to buy special airbrush colors they are available on line, and in some cake supply stores.

I've seen people thin and put all kinds of things in their airbrushes from corn syrup to lustre dusts. I don't know if you can use the gels but my guess is that if you thin them properly, they might work too. I prefer to use the actual airbrush colors. I buy the largest bottles. You usually need to fill the cup more than once so it's good to know the color will be consistent without spattering which might not be the case if you use thinned gels. I bought mine from Kopykake but a lot of places carry them.
There's also a lot of information at Sugarcraft about how to use your airbrush including how to thin things so you can spray them.

If you search for other threads, this has been discussed a few times... for several reasons, you should ONLY ever use specifically airbrush colours in you airbrush. Anything else will likely clog and make a mess!
Thank you for helping me. I am very eager to get started I want to practice for a while before I do my SIL's baby shower cake in February.
