I would like to try a buttercream transfer for a spiderman cake.
I read the article of FBT but didn't quite understand which kind of icing is best for outlining. Also, is trying to transfer a spidy picture a bad idea? I know there would be lots of black outlining and I am afraid of it all running together. Any suggestion appreciated! Thanks,
Candy

I usually use the Wilton black icing already prepared in the tube. I tried Cakemate black but that one was too stiff. I have made my own but black it a pain to make and I think the Wilton tube of black works great. The outline needs to be thicker buttercream than the filled in part. Spiderman was one of the first BCT that I made. It turned out okay but my problem was I didn't wait for my BCT to freeze enough before I tried flipping it onto my cake.

Hope that helps!

Candy I will see if I can answer your questions. I have done a few FBCTs.
Best kind of icing for outlining- I just use the 1/2 and 1/2 icing and tint it black. Start by tinting brown and when you get it pretty dark go to black and let it set for a few hours it will darken. OR the best thing is Americolor black. You can skip a few steps and just color your icing with it.
Your second question about Spiderman. Not a bad idea I am not afraid of the black running together, it should pretty much stay put. I am more afraid of the red icing. You have a hard time getting a true red with wilton and if you do it sometimes has a bitter taste. Americolor is the way to go on that too. Spidey isn't to hard as far as the drawing goes just the coloring red and black are your most challenging. You will find alot of threads on those.
