I was referred to this site by someone on another board. Apparently if you request a price list for the 1 1/2 - 2" high dummies, they are cheaper. If I remember correctly, they are like $.25 10" X 2".

Here is the link.

Thank you curiegas for that link. Has anyone ever ordered from them? If so how is the shipping prices? The site doesnt show how much shipping would be, and I dont want to get caught offguard and have to pay a ton for shipping.

Someone from Ohio ordered the following and was charged about $7.00 for shipping.

2 round 6x4
2 round 8x4
2 round 10x4

1 square 6x4
1 square 8x4
1 square 10x4

The price of all the dummies were $8.91 Shipping was $6.93 for a total of $15.84.

Hope that helps. They are located in Texas in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Wow good prices! If you don't want to order them online, go to a floral supply. It is cheapest to buy a big sheet and cut them yourself. Use a knife, table saw and/or jigsaw. It isn't easy to get them perfect! I saw a cutter made for cutting styrofoam in Michaels, but don't know how well it works.

I've ordered from them. Their prices are very reasonable and shipping wasn't bad either.

The last order was for a TON of them, the box was about the size of half a refrigerator (like the top half, not a side half)- and another box- that had a 14" x 4" round in it- and was about $27 for shipping.

Their prices are just so cheap! A 6" round is $0.60- I haven't found them to be cheaper anywhere else. Couldn't even have bought them cheaper at our local bake shop- even factoring in the shipping. Their customer service is great and you receive your order quickly.

I highly recommend them. They also do custom sizes!

I thought I should mention that the foam is the nice, dense white foam that is smooth. Not the crunchy foam that is in craft stores. I thought about trying to get the foam from the craft stores, but the prices weren't cheap (at least at our Michael's/Hobby Lobby). This was a much better route to go, IMO- and just think of not having to cut all of that foam- especially if you want rounds!

Thank you Golfgirl1227 for that information. I did go ahead and place a order with dallas foam yesterday and cant wait to get them!

I have read where some people use spackling compound to decorate their dummies with, but I know you cannot reuse the dummies if you do that. However does anyone know if I could just ice the cake dummy with spackling compound for the cake icing and then use buttercream for the decorations would the buttercream be hard to get off of the spackling or would it just wash off?

Thaks for any help!

So that you can reuse your cake dummies, you can cover it very tightly in plastic wrap. Beacuse even buttercream on the dummy would leave it greasy and not so great to reuse even with a washing.

Do you think these could be used as cupcake stands?

Thats a good idea! You would probably want to dowel the dummies together so that it wouldn't be shifting, but otherwise yeah that would work.

Pfeil and Holing has good prices on their merchandise, but watch out for their shipping. I ordered something- they say free shipping over $150 and I thought, "cool" but then I saw that almost $50 more had been deducted from my account. I called them and they said "what you ordered doesn't qualify for free shipping." They don't provide any shipping costs or even shipping estimates when you order so you have no idea.

Dallas Foam is my favorite so far!

I put in an order with them about three weeks ago and haven't received it yet. Do you know how long it took to get your order?

I don't like how they don't tell you how much shipping is going to be...not even on your email notification! But they did have really good prices!

Just wondering if you all placed large orders because they have a $25 minimum. I don't know if this is a new thing or what I just saw it on their page.

I ordered 1 each of:
6", 8", 10", 12" & 14" Rounds 4" thick

1 each of:
6", 8", 10", 12", & 14" Squared 4" thick

1 each each of:
6", & 12" Heart 4" thick

2 Each of:
13X9, & 18x12 (2" thick)

The total was only $30.50 for all that BUT that does not include shipping. I had emailed them for a quote on shipping and they said their bigest box they ship in is a size 24" X 24" X 24" and they gave me a quote for that size box to my zip code here in NC of like $26.00.

After I ordered from there I found another site that sells dummies also, I have never ordered from them but here is the site if anyone is interested www.taylorfoam.com/taylorfoam_com/cakedummies/

k about the tip of using buttercream on wall mud (sorry spackling compound) The oil in the buttercream would stain the joint compound. I would at least seal the dummy after you have applied the compound with either clear acrylic sealer or paint it with primer and then eggshell housepaint. That way the buttercream can be washed off and you can reuse the "frosted" cake for other decorations. The joint compound is still water soluble even after it has been dried for a gazillion years (found that out when I did a remodel).

About the $25 minimum- I'm not sure that is the case anymore because I emailed them about a custom order and it was way under $25 and I asked them about it and they said there is no minimum order.

BTW- if you call them, they will give a shipping estimate.

When I make a dummy cake, I ice the cake smooth with Royal Icing and let it set up a day or so and then I ice the cake with Buttercream. Then when you are done with it you can scrape the Buttercream off. I find that the buttercream adheres to the Royal Icing quite nicely.
