Is it possible for yo to go to the church where the ceremony will be, and take photo's of it? Using the actual church that they will have the ceremony at, as the cake design?

i don't know how big you want the church, but wilton makes a stand up house pan, you could start with that, put it on a sheet cake

You could build the top ornate pieces with gingerbread (or some type of cookie) Dip them in white fondant and assemble with royal icing.

Check out Miss Baritone's pics. She has a fabulous 3D church.

I made the following using gumpaste mixed with fondant.
If you want instructions send me a PM and i will put something together for you. It's not hard, just time consuming : )

Gaut:

I used one for a church cake back in December. (See my photos)

My friend made it out of special styrofoam. She cut out the pieces and then glued them together with hot glue.

Then you can add beedings or your can pipe a design using Royal Icing.
