Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of getting licensed, and my cake orders are picking up. It's starting to get expensive buying individual boxes from the cake supply store, so I was wondering where everyone gets there boxes from. I have room to store some boxes, but not a huge amount. The websites I've found sell in like groups of 50-100, which is too many per size that I would need. Any tips would be appreciated.

I can't stand the boxes from cake supply stores. They are never tall enough! (My cakes are about 4-5"...and up to 8" if they have a big sugar bow or something. You can't give a customer a tiered cake in a regular cake box with the lid closed.)

Drives me crazy trying to wrap the Saran Wrap around the box with the lid taped half open....argh! icon_mad.gif

So now I go to business supply stores and the Post Office. They sell the best boxes! Way sturdier than the flimsy white boxes, taller and still pretty inexpensive.

Yesterday I picked up a pack of 18" x 18" and 12" x 12" x 6". Such a JOY! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Call a local paper product company in a large town - they will ususally have some kind of box products that you can buy....you may still be in the same boat though about how many you can buy. It would be a minimum amount I am sure.

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought of office supply stores or paper companies.

most paper companies won't sell to the general public. In my experience. I used to work on a loading dock, and had to order boxes for the company and had to buy a minimum of 100 of each type of box(es). When asked if they'd sell to individuals after I left that company, they told me flatly, no. Office supply stores or even Target or Walgreens sell these boxes.

Here's another tip...I go to restaurant supply stores for plain white pizza boxes. They sell them for about $25.00 for 50-100.

I pack my decorated cookie orders flat in them. Works beautifully! You can get about 30 cookies in an 18" square pizza box!

This may sound goofy, but I have gone to the drycleaners and bought the large drycleaning bags to put over my cake boxes-they are about 10cents apiece for the large ones and I cut the open for the really large ones or split them in half, etc. I then adhere them to the boxes with tape on the bottom. No fighting with plastic wrap! As far as the boxes go, I get mine from the cake store and if I need a box for a large sheetcake, I just use one part of the box for one and keep the lid for another. If you can find a grocery store with a bakery going out of business sometimes you can get them in bulk from them or possibly go in with someone if you have another decorator or 2 in your area and can split a large online order. Sorry so long-just some ideas!

I tried Papermart for full sheet cakes. The boxes were really too flimsy for cakes this big. The smaller ones might be better?

You might also try an If Its Paper or Not Just Paper type of retail business. They stock all kinds of cake decorating supplies . . . cake boards, boxes, plastic cake boxes, etc.

I was just thinking about this same thing the other day. I was going to try a packaging company called uline. (uline.com) I used to buy several items for packaging my soap from them, back when I made hand made soap & sold it at home parties. I always had very good service from them and very speedy shipment.
