I absolutely love the cake on page 562 of the newest Modern Bride magazine. It is made with fondant and I hate fondant (as does most of my family). This is the cake I want for my wedding. Do any of you who have seen this cake think it would be possible to do with buttercream instead. Instead of the fondant ropes around the cake, I'd use a tip 12. What do you think?? Thanks for any answers.

Anything's possible, but what fondant have you tried? If Wilton is the only one you've tried, don't judge all fondant by it!!! Wilton fondant is NASTY!

Satin Ice, Pettinice, Mill Lane, Fondx all make MUCH better tasting fondant!

I can't post the image here since I can't find it online and if I scan it, the file is far too large to post here, not sure why but it is. Thats why I gave a page number, hoping people who have the mag will be able to respond. It's the Feb/March 2006 issue.

You could also use the buttercream fondant as I have used it and my family loved the taste of this. I rolls out just like regular fondant.

Do you have adobe photoshop? It allows you to decrease the file size of the photo before you post it.

Cashley, I have never heard of buttercream fondant. Hmm, sounds interesting. I'll definitely do my research and look into using it. Does it look like and give the same effect as fondant?

Beany, no I do not have adobe photoshop. I'm searching for another way around this so I can post this picture. It really is a lovely cake and I'd like to share it on this site to give others inspiration and ideas, of course I'd name my source and the baker who created this masterpiece.

SAD... do you have MS Photo Editor? (It often comes with Windows or Office)...

If you check the properties under the file menu, you can change the resolution there (72 pixel/inch is as much as you need for on-screen viewing.)

Then you can re-size under the image menu.

You can do the same thing im MS Paint... image menu then attributes

Yes it pretty much is the same as fondant except you have the oil in the fondant and I have not tried flowers yet with it. I was wondering if you put gumtex in the fondant whether or not it would harden like regular fondant. I found it very easy to roll and put on the cake and tasted so much better than regular fondant.

I would never attempt it in buttercream. The weight of the ropes and ribbon roses would very likely pull the buttercream right off the side of the cake.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I always know I can count on my CC family to help. I just may attempt to do a 6 inch cake like that one and see what it does. I think I would do a variation on this cake though (for those who have seen it). I would use silk gerber daisies in place of the ribbon roses. This way I can add a splash of color and incorporate my flower into the cake.

I'll still try to figure out a way to post this cake here on this site.
