i was wanting to make a cake with a lot of ribbons and bows, and i was wondering if i can add gumtex to mmf to make it a little stronger. i hate making up a whole batch of gumpaste, since i hardly ever use it, and i've heard that mmf takes forever to dry on it's own. if not, i'll make gumpaste, but how long can it last? can you make things with it, then store them for a long time like royal icing or no? thanks

Yes, you can add Gum-tex to marshmallow fondant, I add at the rate of about 3 tsp. to 10 ounces by weight of fondant.
True gumpaste items last almost indefinitely so they have a better shelflife than items made of marshmallow fondant with Gum-tex added to it although these items last a good time too. The advantage to gumpaste is that it dries faster and harder.

I made some MMF Sunday night to make a loopy bow and added 1 tbsp of gumtext to it. I made my bow loops that night as well and this morning they were almost completely hard. I don't think it changed the flavor of it at all either.

Well, I have never made marshmallow fondant flowers that far ahead but I do make up rolled fondant flowers and they keep for at least a year. I would think that MMF ones should work the same since most of the ingredients are the same. The test will be if they keep a month they will keep that length of time so go ahead! Just make sure they are well dried when you box them up and keep them out of the light and out of the heat or humidity.
I like the fact that fondant flowers are edible, you won't break a tooth on them.
The advantage to gumpaste is that things will pretty much always be hardened and dried within 24 hours. With fondant and Gum-tex added they will never be quite as hard, even when fully dried but will harden up enough for some things like flowers. They will still remain more fragile. Some people use 1/3 prepared gumpaste to 1/3 prepared fondant to get a less fragile item. The gum-tex has a slight vinegar smell and when added to things you do get a bit of the taste that Wilton fondant has, which is what people don't like about Wilton fondant. Personally, unless the whole cake is covered in it, I don't find it noticable and actually, it doesn't bother me. I find every single fondant I have tried has a very similar taste so for me marshmallow fondant isn't an improvement. With a dried flower all you really taste is sweet in a bit of a crunchy texture.
The disadvantage to using Gum-tex is that it does give a very slight peach coloured hue to the white. That is why many people use a different hardening agent. Tylose doesn't give this colour change. It doesn't matter unless you are going for a pure white look and it doesn't effect the way the fondant takes colour.
But adding some hardening agent to your fondant does not turn it into gumpaste, it will never get that porcelaine appearance. The quantities are just not the same.

When do you add the gum paste to the MMF? How do you measure the MMF by weight?

Well first of all, marshmallow fondant is not my fondant of choice for making most decorations. I like it for covering a cake but not for making decorations in most cases. I just do not find it has the same elastic qualities as regular rolled fondant and actually prefer the Wilton over other brands of fondant for decorations, though not for taste when the whole cake is covered in it.
But when I do have to use MMF, I weigh it on a kitchen scale. It is not an exact art, sometimes I add more. Then I just knead it in.
