Amazing!!! Could you please mention on this post when you do the final cake so that all of us are alerted and can check it out? I'd hate to miss it!!!

I also think you should take pictures each step of the way next time and submit it as an article . . . we'd ALL love to learn how to do this! SO COOL!

You have one awesome stepdad, paired with an awesome cakedecorator and the sky is the limit. Wow. But would you take photos of the setup and step by step photos of the cake as well please. this is sooo cool. Haven't done any wedding cakes yet, (people usually get married, before they move to china, cause of visa, but you never know, would also look great as a summer cake or I'd love to do one for the summer break party for my daughters class. Would be so awesome, the kids would go crazy

Thanks again for all your kind posts! I will try to remember to take pictures at each step when I do the real cake. I can't wait to see what they have to say about their cake!

What would you guys charge for a cake like this? The cake will be covered in rolled buttercream with diamond impression and coral colored border and dots. Hexagon, 15, 12, 6 regular buttercream filling. Coral and White roses between top and middle tier (top tier elevated with pillars and separator plates.

My base prices are $2.25 for buttercream and $3.00 for fondant/rolled buttercream per serving. Just wondering what you guys would charge for a cake like this though.

Thanks!

I'm not professional so I'm not good with pricing, but I would have to say that since the cake goes way beyond rolled buttercream because of the working waterfall, you should be able to charge accordingly. I've seen people's charges here for fondant/rolled buttercream higher than yours, even before the technical wonders of that beautiful waterfall. Don't sell yourself short.

I think you should keep your prices the same for the cake. If you have a lot of flowers I would charge a small amount for that. I would include a rental fee for the fountain. Maybe 50 or 75 dollars. Your cake is amazing. Good luck on your bridal show. I'm sure you are going to shine and get tons of business.

My first suggestion is about pricing - stick with your base price, plus a minimum of $100 for the assembly with the fountain, plus whatever deposit you decide to require for the fountain rental.

My second suggestion is to consider this for future use as a rental cake, then sell kitchen cakes or cupcakes for serving. Do it in Permaice, and you would be able to rent it out for almost as much as a regular wedding cake.

Please remember to take pictures as you do the final cake, and write down each step as you do it, so you can reference to them for the next time you get such an order.

You use rubber tubing through that passes through the cake. For the waterfall use plexiglass that the water will cascade over.

Thanks, yeah, I just thought yesterday I could just rent this cake out....we'll see what comes! icon_smile.gif

And the tube does not run through the cake, just outside and up the back. I didn't want anything inside the cake so we made it to where it didn't have to be. Nothing in the cake, just the tube up the back and the plexiglass that sits on the cake itself.
