I have been asked to do a project for 25 7th graders. I wanted to do a cupcake project if any one has any cute simple ideas. I also wanted to see if anyone has any projects using twinkies or yodels, something with a ready made cake as a second project. I have an hour with the group and I do want to keep them entertained.Valentines day is so much fun and I really would appreciate any ideas. Thank you!

is this project for them to do and you just supervise? if so you can have already made cupcakes and have them decorate as they want?

Yes, I will be giving them cupcakes to decorate. I was just hoping to do something interesting on the cupcakes that would take some time and effort since I have an hour with the children. I also am still looking for some projects using ready made cakes like twinkies or yodels, so that I can fill the hour and the kids can have some fun. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

You could have them use Yodels as a roll of old love letters then useing icing or fondant as a ribbon tieing them up. and then they could write on it also.
For the cupcakes what if they made them like conversational hearts. Or they could try for a homemade valentine look with paper doilies.

Here are a coupleof ideas that I found. Some of them are super cute! You could easily modify some of these ideas for any holiday, including Valentine's Day.

Hope this can help spark some ideas. I used to teach 8th graders. I know that it can be tough to keep their attention for a whole hour. I think it is so awesome that you are doing this for them. This will be fun!!!

Please keep us updated on what you decide to do! I'd love to know!

Thank you for the suggestions and all of the great sites! I am printing all of the great suggestions and making a book, so when asked again to entertain a group of children I will have a resource guide. Anyone else have any great sites like luv2cake for great ideas to do with kids? I appreciate the help and support so much!

If you are looking for something they can get a little more creative on to take up more time, I might suggest rice crispy treats.

Last year for valentine's day at work I made a few batches of rice crispies and instead of putting them in a pan to cool then cut, while they were still warm I had the 4" comfort grip cookie cutter from Wilton buttered up and formed the rice cripy treats in the cutter. I was making two batches at a time and they stay warm long enough to shape them. You just don't want to move them until they are set so I had some cookie sheets lined with parchment paper (lightly greased) that I moved the cookie cutter around on and then just left the treats on the sheet until set.

Once they are set You can ice the whole thing, or just decorate the top like a cookie.

I also did this with the 6" heart pan-these two I iced completely then decorated like a cake.

Just another idea.

I hope what I wrote out makes sense. If not let me know. I will try to explain it better.

Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

Leily

How about heart shaped cookies with frosting that hardens. You can write whatever you want. Using a straw cut a hole at the top of the heart before you bake them. After baking and while they are still somewhat soft use the straw again to clear the hole. Using red string licorice make a necklace by stringing it through the hole and tying a knot in the end. This may take two strings. This may be too childish for 7th graders but I thought it was a cute idea.
