I'm just curious what y'all use to package your tiered cakes that are being picked up by the customer?
I've only had one tiered cake picked up by a customer. The bottom two tiers were stacked and were in one cake box with the lid propped so it wouldn't lay on the push in pillars that I already had placed in the cakes to place the top tier on. The top tier was in it's own box ready to be sat on the push in pillars.

If it's a tiered cake with columns, I pack them in individual boxes for them.
If it is a stacked cake, I put it in a moving/shipping type box. I cut the top flaps off, cut down one side of the box (2 corners). The cut side will then fold out like a flap. I put the cake in. (securing with masking tape rolled up if needed) Fold the flap up, tape it with packing tape. Cover the top with foil.
then I tell them to cut down the tape sides and let that side down to get the cake out of the box.
Hope this helps.
Thanks! That's exactly what I was planning to do...just wanted to make sure it was normal! lol
hint: UHaul has some really nice boxes that are extra tall (for lamps and things) and if needed monster tall, could use their "wardrobe" box.
Good to know....although I pray I never have to let a cake that big be picked up and set up by someone else! lol
This one is just two tiers (3" plus torting and cake board and sleeping beauty on top), so less than 12" for sure.
