I am just wondering if there is much of a difference between MMF and reg fondent. I am new at this site or any other and I keep reading about MMF. Is one better then the other. icon_rolleyes.gif

MMF is just a shor-cut recipe for fondant. There are several very good prepared fondants you can buy, and most recipes are very good.

If you haven't used fondant, it is a good idea to buy a small amount so you can see what it is should feel like. That way you can have a better idea how it works when you make it from a recipe.

Most fondant recipes include gelatin, powdered sugar, water, corn syrup and optional flavoring. MMF has all that, but you only need to buy marshmallows and powdered sugar and add your optional flavorings.

MMF also tastes much better than store-bought fondant, according to most people. icon_smile.gif

I've tried MMF and Wiltons store bought fondant. They were both the same to work with but taste was really different. Wiltons taste like play dough and MMF taste like those orange "circus peanuts" to me. I don't like the texture of either on a cake though but it does give a beautiful effect to look at.

I feel like the Wilton fondant does not dry out or get as stiff as the MMF if you are working on details. I love MMF for covering cakes as it tastes better and is cheaper but I like to have a box of Wilton fondant on hand just for making decorations that likely won't be eaten, anyway.

Thank you to everyone that replied.. I have always used store bought fondant from a decorating store in my area and dislike wiltons. I just wasn't sure about the mmf one, I had not used it before. I will try using mmf . I here its much easier to work with.

Thanks again
