I was wondering if you can melt down regular chocolate bars (such as Hershey's) and pour it into a mold or do you have to use either specially made melting chocolate or candy melts? I heard something one time about having to have it tempered or it will sieze up on you. Is a hershey (or other pre-made chocolate bar) tempered?
Thanks!

You'll have to temper it before it will work. Some commercially made chocolate will seize on you, regardless (think chocolate chips.) Your best bet is to go with candy melts which are already tempered.

No, you shouldn't use Hershey bars or even chocolate chips.
If you have a Walmart near you, they sell Almond Bark in the cake isle. It's already to be melted down. It's like $1.78 per package. It will work fine.

Thanks, I thought maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to use a chocolate bar but thought I'd find out for sure. I'll have to find some melting chocolate or find the almond bark. Thanks for the info!
