I was looking at some cake photos, and in the description it said sugar seashell. The seashells were suprisingly realistic and just amazing to look at. How are these made? I would love to try some!!
I just posted a cake with a ton of shells -- I use white chocolate -- to the melted chocolate I add flakes of dark chocolate. let melt and swirl once or twice to get streaks -- and then put in to the molds -- I have molds made of silicone to do the shells
It sounds like they used gumpaste in a seashell silicone mold. Some people call gumpaste sugarpaste.
you could also do sugar seashells with granulated sugar and a tiny bit of water... then press into the mold, once you have firmly pushed the sugar into shape, tip out and let dry - will be hard and taken the shape of the shell. it will be a rougher finish/texture than using fondant. I used it to make sugar bells on Xmas cakes.
make sure u grease the mold with some veg. shortening/copha first to help the sugar release.
