Hey everyone!
My friend just asked me if I could make her a cowboy themed groom's cake. Now I have 2 1/2 months till its due but I've never done a groom's cake before. One idea I did have was to try and make a cowboy hat but I'm not really sure how to do that.
So if any of you have any advice or ideas please feel free to post them.
All help is appreciated!

Hershey: One thing I have seen done is to find a picture or pattern for the object (I saw a cowboy boot), enlarge it to size desired and then use this as a template to sculpt your cake( sheet cake) . You could do a variety of things with this method. the boot turned out really cute. Too bad it wasn't mine or I would post a pix for you! A 3-D hat or boot would be fun.
if you go to the galleries and click on SEARCH at the top and type in COWBOY...you'll get lots of ideas...boots, hats, stagecoach.
depending upon number to be served...
could do boot laying flat on board, w/ hat propped up on it (hide dowels in boot to support cakeboard under the hat) and then do a fondant lasso to set to one side and have end of it wind around board and hat.
I was just browsing...Doug I just wanted to tell you that you have great ideas and I love your illustrations..
Thanks everyone for the ideas!
Can anyone tell me where I could get instructions on how to make
a cowboy hat?I've seen lots of pictures in the galleries and they look
really good.
here's a link that was posted elsewhere on site:

you can search the forums too
click on search and type cowboy AND hat (be sure to type the "and" all in caps) and various threads about this type of cake will be listed.
Here is a picture of one I did this year. It was very easy and quite a cake when finished.
