Is it possible to correct mistakes after you have made the mistake? I just completed a German Chocolate cake and Ditzy me put on the Chocolate Rosettes before I topped the cake with the coconut topping. As you can see in the pic it started covering up the rosettes. I am still just a baby cake decorator so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated icon_smile.gif I was too afraid of making a bigger mess if I took off the rosettes icon_cry.gif

I think it looks just fine! Of course, I can't see the top but from what I can see it looks great.

As it has been said before, we are all our own worst critics. I think we see the mistakes more than other people do.

I have found that when the cake is all done, most of the time I am the only one who can pick out the mistake. Or, that the mistake doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.

I probably would have taken the roses off even if it meant I had to re-make those. Once you covered the top with the coconut topping you wouldn't have been able to see where you took them off. Just mho.

But your cakes are great and you are probably worrying too much.

Hi Susan,

Your cake is pretty...yummy.

If you have finished adding the coconut topping, then it will just look like you just did a light covering of the rosettes intentionally.

I add toppings sometimes to my borders and decorations.

If you don't want the toppings on your rosettes, can you take a small spatular or knife and lift off. If you mess up some, just make your replacement rosettes a little larger to cover up.

Good luck thumbs_up.gif

Forgot to add that it is pretty as is and stop worrying...my lazy susan icon_lol.gif

I personally think it looks cool with the topping flowing around the rosettes - makes it look like you meant to do it that way....and it looks nice! Don't worry about it......looks great!

Mmmm.... Can I have a piece???

It looks fine with the topping on there the way you have it.

One of my favorite mottos is "Once is a mistake; twice is a pattern!" Since the top of your cake is consistent, it's perfectly fine.

Now where can I meet you to get a piece of that cake? Heehee!

Haha, I see you managed to change your name kiddo, very cute!
I think the cake looks amazing, it really looks delicious too. I like it the way you did it. Screwing up is the mother of creativeness, I say!
By the way, uh, just in case you hadn't noticed, I think one of your cake decorating friends stole a piece of cake from the picture.... Hhmnn, wonder who that was?
