I have been looking at some push molds on the Country Kitchen website. I saw 2 house molds that are really nice, but very detailed. Has anyone ever used push molds with fondant or gumpaste? I have no idea how well they would work or how to use them. Would I need to grease the molds and push the fondant in? How do you get the fondant back out of the mold if it isn't flexible?

You can use cornstarch or Crisco to prepare the molds. I find that the slightest of cornstarch works very well.

You may need to chill larger filled molds to get a bit of contraction so that the fondant comes out easily--then let the piece come back to room temp before applying it.

You can use a ball of fresh fondant to "pull" the piece out of the mold, too. Hard to explain, but ball up some fondant and stick it to the back of the molded fondant, pull the piece up gently by the ball while pulling the mold away.

Thanks so much for the advice. I might try ordering a mold this week so I can plan with it. I love to learn new things.

If the mold has a lot of small detail, you might want to dust the ball of fondant with cornstarch rather than dust the mold. Sometimes the cornstarch will fill up the small details in a mold if you aren't real careful.
