I've never taken the class but I know I've seen the Course "Kits" at "Jo-Ann's Fabrics". It has everything in it that you will need. icon_smile.gif

The Course I kit has:
1 - #7 flower nail
tip brush
2 - standard couplers (I like having lots of these!)
1 - decorator brush (which is really a little kids paintbrush)
2 - featherweight 10" decorating bags (will need more)
1 - disposable decorating bag (you can buy more, but I don't like them)
Tips....
#3
#12
#16
#21
#104
#67
#20

1 - small straight spatula
1 - practice board set

I found it is much easier to have several of each tip that way you don't have to wash them out to use that particular tip with several colors. Good luck and I hope this helps!

You need the course 1 kit. And the multiple tip suggestion is a good one. And I would buy some disposable bags and disposable tupperware for transporting icing. But for right now, I'd wait until the instructor tells you what to buy. Some instructors are different and don't use everything outlined in the book. Speaking of which, the book is considered part of your course fee at some stores, so don't buy it right now.
Good luck!

The kit does not contain everything you'll need. You'll also need piping gel, colors, meringue powder, icing ingredients, waxed paper (for the roses). Investing in some disposable containers for your icing is a great suggestion, I would also suggest picking up at least one offset spatula along with more couplers and more bags. You'll have a great time!

several people I know did NOT by the course kit because they knew they wanted to take all 3 courses and wanted a better deal on supplies.

Instead they took there 40% off coupon (michaels or A.C. Moore) and got the complete tool box (the blue/dark blue pro one...costs about $120 before discount). Came stuffed with tips, spatuals, some bags etc. Here's a link to Wilton's site w/ full description: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3E30CE7F-475A-BAC0-5C84F2613EBB520D&fid=3E32F5E3-475A-BAC0-560B229FE201C5B8

In courses II and III you'll need to add to it the oval pans used for the course II final, the flower formers, and the plates and pillars for III final.

There are lots of incidentals you'll need along the way: powdered sugar, crisco, colorings, florings, decorative elements (such as clown heads) and of course LOTS of patience!

GOOD LUCK and welcome to our crazed band of merry icing slingers!

I agree..the instructor will probably go over the list of what she wants you to get and what she thinks will be helpful and if she's like mine was will tell you those things she thinks you can do without.
I am starting course 2 in a couple of weeks so am looking foward to getting some more tips and the pans and stuff that comes with the kit.
Some of the extras I bought for my course 1 were a large offset spatula, large icing tip ( I would def get one of these if you are planning to make a lot of cakes) and a turntable...I waited on the other things until I knew what I would be using in class and what projects I was planning..For the first night you probably wont need anything other than your course kit (In my class we were given the kit and course book when we arrived )
