Hershey's Dutch Processed Special Dark Cocoa, has anyone been able to find this? I have been searching but can't find it anywhere. I want to make a very dark (almost black) chocolate icing and read this is probably what I need. I did find it online but can only find it where I have to buy 6-8 oz containers and there is no way I would ever use that much.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciate!!

THANKS!

..how about just adding a bit of black gel paste coloring to your chocolate icing...that is, if you aren't able to find the Hersheys product you are looking for.

Ahh.. you're on the search I was was on a bit ago. My friend found it at Safeway even past the holiday baking season. I only found it at Mars during the pre-baking season. I have found it on amazon as well. I have also found just dark cocoa but not by hersheys.

Here are a few links that you can go to and search for cocoa:

http://shop.bakerscatalogue.com
http://pastrychef.com/htmlpages/ingredients.html
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007SNZ52/?tag=cakecentral-20

Also, I tried the trick of adding black to my choc frosting and it did not work well for me at all. I thought mine turned out looking like poop!! Maybe I was impatient but I'd rather use dark cocoa powder!

Try www.hershey.com and look under pantry items. I found it with the cocoa but couldn't click on it to see if it was available to buy through them.

I just checked my Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder, and it is an 8 oz container. It is the regular sized container that the Hershey's Cocoa comes in. Even if you have left overs, it's not like it's going to go bad. We have had this regularly available in my area for quite some time--it's right next to the regular cocoa powder. Good Luck!

I was just coming to post that I found this today while I was grocery shopping at Meijer.

I can't remember the exact price, seems like it was about $3.50 though. More than the regular, but from what I've read here, well worth the difference! icon_smile.gif

It was in the regular baking supplies aisle with the other cocoa powders and such, didn't seem like a seasonal item.

hth!
Laura.

I would also suggest looking in a health food store. I found dark cocoa there...it wasn't Hershey's but it was just as good. I haven't been able to find the Hershey's version anywhere around here.

Thanks for the posts!! I have tried adding black to Chocolate icing but just can't seem to make the color I want. I am trying to get the dark ganache look from buttercream. Maybe I am not doing something right but I am hoping if I can find the Dark Cocoa it will fix my problem. I did see it on Amazon but they only sell it by 6 cans and I am guessing it has a shelf life like everything else and I won't use 6 cans anytime soon. I tried my local health food store but they only carry the bars.

Doug. I swear I saw it somewhere in town but can't for the life of me remember where. Probably just wishful thinking, LOL. I am in Goldsboro so I will see where the closes Lowes food store is and check there. I think there might be on in Clayton or Smithfield.

Thanks again for all the help!

Thanks! Yeap, I think there is a Kroger about 45 min away in the same town as the Lowe's. I hope Kroger has it, they are the only ones I have found so far that will do an edible image and I am dying to try one of those. Looks like I need to plan a trip some time soon and see if I can find that and some other items I have been looking for.

I just bought a case a Central Market this morning. I got some right before X-mas, it was the best dark chocolate icing I have ever made.

I FOUND IT, I FOUND IT, LOL!! I didn't even think to look at the commissary on base, never thought it would be there for some reason. I am so excited, can you tell?? I can't wait to see how my chocolate icing turns out with this cocoa.

If anyone else is searching for this and can not find it, please pm me. I would be more than happy to buy some and ship it to you. It was less than $2 and it isn't too heavy so shipping shouldn't be a lot.

Off to bake a chocolate cake icon_wink.gif
