I'll definitely be watching...fondant isn't my strong point, I'm afraid. I don't think I've worked with it enough. This comment from that website made me giggle...

"Luster dust comes in small, 2-gram, tubs. Carefully open the cap and, without breathing, put about 1/4 teaspoon into a very small cup."

haha, without breathing...unfortunately, it never says when you can START breathing again!!!

Thanks, dessertdiva!

I suppose you are not supposed to blow the dust all over a cake for effect...one time I was trying to cover my 3D tree with a bit of sparkle dust and the whole kitchen was full of the dust by the time I was through. icon_redface.gif I could taste sparkle dust every time I breathed for awhile.

I still can't get into watching HIM. The show is ok, but I really expect him to do something more than one item through "30" minutes of show. I know they featured him on Recipe for success a few months ago, but for a lawyer, he sure didn't like to talk much. (about the failing parts of his business)

I understand if you are embarrassed that an employee stole or screwed up your business, but people watching the show should know something about how a business isn't always running smoothly. There's very few failures on that show, which I find dis-appointing form the stand point that it makes it look like everyone and anyone who opens a business succeeds, that simply isn't the case.

That said, I record it everytime a new show airs. Tips are invaluable sometimes.

So, Fondant huh? hahaha

I don't think he made all of the other fondant gifts displayed on the show. The layer he did was not anywhere close to the same quality as all of the others. It was not even leveled!

I was really interested in the fish cheesecake lady. She did not use fondant to cover that fish, she used chocolate clay. Has anyone tried this? It looked like she used it just like fondant.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched that hoping for some trick I didn't know and didn't get squat out of it. Oh wait, I didn't know about gum glue. But other than that, his segments were awfully dull. The cheesecake lady was great. The trout in a frying pan was awesome. I'm wondering if somehow I can reproduce that for my father in law. They should have shown candy clay and how to make/use that since one of the guests was using it!!

I did notice that he did not say a word about how most bought fondant tastes!!

I watched the show also, twice. I watched the first show at 8:30 then I watched the rerun at midnight (I think), just in case I missed anything the first time and nope didn't miss a thing no good tips. The only thing I want to know is how do you think the purse lady attaches the little purses with the ribbon in the middle? I was thinking that she makes them the way she showed and once dried she attaches the ribbon then makes a second mold and attaches that to the first swirl around a bit and there you go but I would like to here what you guys think. I would love to make chocolates that cost $40 per dozen altough I think I'll never be able to pull that one off.

Yep...you heard right....12 chocolates for $40.00!! icon_eek.gif Holy cow...I would not pay 40 bucks for 12 little chocolates! For that kind of money there better be a gold nugget inside!! icon_lol.gif

I was disappointed ...I really thought he was going to go into detail about fondant. Like hamie said...he didn't have his cake level and when you looked at it in the back.... he had a big overlapping pucker on the corner. icon_sad.gif But on the up side...the fish cheesecakes were cool! I liked the idea of putting them in a frying pan!

He probaby didn't look comfortable with the fondant because they don't do anything like that in his bakery. Everything is very simple, very minimilist. They don't even use borders or roses or anything like that. His cakes are pretty but very, very simple. He also charges $35 for a 6 in round and $60 for a 9in!!! They only do 6-9-12-14. That's it! And for wedding cakes you only get a the6-9-12. If you need to feed more you can get extra 9 or 12s-they don't do sheet cakes either! For most parts of the country that would never fly but he's in D.C. so they can get away with it!

I also liked the little purses ideas.... They were adorable but seemed like a LOT of work putting the little details on them and stuff....

The fondant I did expect a bit more... I thought he was going to show more on it... he doesn't go into detail on anything he is preparing..
