Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to work on an idea for my daughter's second birthday party next weekend. I'm going to be making a Backyardigan's cake for about 30 people. I was planning to do a 1/2 sheet and do a buttercream transfer for each of the characters. But I'm bored with plain old sheet cakes and would like to make something more interesting. Plus, I like to have several flavors of cake available.

I thought about making 5 - 8 inch round cakes, but I think that would end up being REALLY big. I would like whatever I make to fit on a 1/2 sheet board. Then I wondered about stacking a round cake on top of a 1/2 sheet cake, but don't really know how that would work either. I'm kind of at a loss on how I can make something interesting!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! (ps - I stick to buttercream!)

Thanks!
Beth

What about cupcakes? Maybe do a round cake with the fbct, then cupcakes around it with chocolate transfer characters sticking out of them? I did some choc transfer hello kitty heads (in my photos). you can use popsicle sticks or just plain toothpics to stick them down into the cupcakes.

I saw your cake in the gallery - it's awesome! Unfortunately, I don't know if I have that kind of ability. Could I get a buttercream transfer to stick to the side of a cake? I've never tried it before.

By the way, my daughter just ran over here when she saw the cake on my screen. She said, "Babas!" which means Backyardigans. Then "Evie eat! Evie eat pease!" Guess she's a fan of your cake, as well!!!

I like the idea of a ccc, but I've never done one before. I've heard that it can be difficult to get the frosting smooth, until you get used to doing it. I don't know that I'm ready for that yet.

That might be an idea. I don't think I would go to the effort of doing transfers for the cupcakes -- that would be a LOT of work with all the different characters and their colors. Maybe I could cheat and just buy the cupcake picks. Hmmm . . .

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif I say cheat! Yeah, that would take quite a while to make that many for cupcakes!

I do an two 8" sqares side by side. This allows me to use two different flavors of cake mix but icing and decorate like a sheet cake.

yes you can. I did it for my elmo cake if you want to check it out. the fish and sign are buttercream transfers.

You could also use the same concept by making a few cookies to stick around the cake.

good luck!!

I have one in my gallery too. It was not that difficult if you like playing with fondant.
