I don't know if y'all know about www.freecycle.org or not. It is a website where you can post what you are looking for and if the other members in your area have it and want to give it away for free they contact you by email. I just posted that I was looking for Cake Decorating supplies and have already received an email from a very nice lady that says she has lots of pans of different shapes and other things that she will give to me because she doesn't use them. Check it out. I hope you like it and lots of great free stuff! icon_smile.gif

Had to edit because had the wrong web address. Sorry

I have been on that site before. Pretty neat site, but I was told you have to first post something to give away before you can post saying you need something. Not bad, but I didn't have anything to give away right then.

Nope you don't have to post something to give away first. I have never posted anything to give away on it. If I had something to give away I would. I did get a Genealogy program from someone but have never been asked to post a give away first.
Maybe you should try it for your area and see icon_smile.gif

I signed up for it for a little while, but got WAYYY too many emails to sort through everyday. It may not be too bad in some areas, but in this one it was a nightmare. I asked to be removed. I am sure there are some places where it would be very cool - good luck with it. (And that is awesome that you got hooked up with someone for the pans!)

You have to remember when you sign up to choose the option for them to not send you emails everytime someone lists an item. I was getting tons of emails too but just went and changed my options. Now I don't get any unless someone answers my post.

You're welcome icon_smile.gif The lady just emailed me and said I can pick up the pans tomorrow. They are heart pans, a lamb and some others. I can't wait!!! And she only lives a couple miles away from me.

Go to "Edit Membership" then scroll down to "Message Delivery". The one I have checked is for Special notices only. Do not check Individual or Daily Digest. If you do you will get tons of emails.

You have to give away in the DC area first. Could be that there are a few out there that don't enforce the fule or something. Also, for ours, you can't select "no mail", you have to leave it so you can still receive notices from the moderators, but at least you won't get all the regular posts. It's a great resource. And remember, it doesn't have to be something super fabulous that you're offering. It could be as simple as some books, movies or music you don't want anymore. Great way to rid of stuff...one man's trash, another man's treasure!

Each freecycle chapter is a little different. They have the same overall mandate but run a little different. The one I am on does not require you to make an offer before a wanted post but some do. In the welcoming email I received when I joined they encourage you to post an offer first.
We have picked up a few things from freecycle(including our DVD player) and given away a lot of things as well.

I joined a few months ago, but the one for Chicago needed the first post to giving something away and I didn't have anything. I love the concept though.

I just tried to join, and everytime I click on "Join", I'm at a page that (to me) seems to require a Yahoo! account. Is that the case? Or can I use any email address? I'd hate to create a new email account for one thing!

TIA!
Mirjana

I joined the one in my area this morning and already got rid of a iron basket vegetable holder that I've been trying to find someone to take.

I love the idea, checked it out and joined BUT when they sent me an email to join a second group ( i requested)they listed so many of my other email addresses that I didn't even give them icon_eek.gif , that tells me that they are not doing this for nothing, I kind of wish I didn't give my email. Email addresses are sold for a lot of money, I think that's how they make their profit.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I've never had it happen to me but it could be the different areas that we live so they are different chapters.

The lady I picked up my FREE cake pans from was soooo nice! Included with the things she gave to me was an unused Festive Trees Bake Set, 2 Heart Cake pans, 1 3-D Lamb cake pans, 1 unused pumpkin cake pan, 1 unused Farberware non-stick mini hearts cake pan and 1 Wiltons mini bundts cake pan! I feel sooo spoiled... And on Sunday I am going to meet another lady that has cake pans for me icon_smile.gif
