How hard is it to make the persons head/face/hair that is falling into the hole,on some of those over the hill cakes? Is the hole made with black icing? Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help

I'm not sure what you mean-describe a bit more what you are trying to do. Have the person lying face down? or what? icon_smile.gif

I have never made this cake before but it seems that the hole is black icing and the person can be piped or made of fondant to appear that he is crawling out of it.
With fondant---a person's upper torso is not that difficult, depending on your level of working with fondant.
Good Luck!!

I have made this cake, but it is not in the gallery. I made a round cake, took a round biscuit cutter and pushed and twisted it into the cake. I then dug out the cut part and that was the hole. I piped in some brown frosting and spread it around. I then frosted the entire cake green with grass and flowers. Then I piped the figure. I wrote the message on the side of the cake. Overall, it is a pretty easy cake. I got the directions out of one of the Wilton books. Good Luck!

I have one in my photos. It's done as a sand trap, just beige frosting. I used a ring cake pan so I had a hole, then frosted the inner part of the ring with light brown/beige frosting. The man is simple to do with a large round tip. You can find the directions at http://www.wilton.com/recipes/recipesandprojects/bday/timeslipsaway.cfm

Hope this will help.

Okay, that cake where the guy is trying to climb out of the "grave", that is hilarious. My husband turns 30 next december, and is really "freakin'" out. That cake would be so funny.

In the photo Galleries, check the Birthday Category Over The Hill, there are quite a few variations on this cake... with descriptions and close-up photos. Hillarious !!!

I made the cesspool cake in my pictures pretty much like bulldog described. But I made the guy from fondant.

I made that cake last year and it was fairly easy!!! I used a thicker consistency BC icing so the head etc would stay round.I beleive it is in my photos.

The one that I made was done with MMF for the person, so it's just like doing playdough. I used the grass tip for the hair.

As for the hole, I carved out a hole with a knife, then iced it, then put the person in, and then filled it somewhat with oreo cookie crumbs (or chocolate graham cracker crumbs) for the dirt.

Good Luck! thumbs_up.gif
