I have a bag of light blue candy melts that I want to use to make dots on a cake tomorrow. I was hoping to have some lighter blue dots and some darker blue dots...
I have the notion that maybe melting the candymelts and then piping the dots will change the color slightly? so i could use some candy melts as dots straight on the cake and then some melted, piped and recooled...will they be different colors?
I don't have any oil based candy colors and I don't want to go to the store.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
no they pretty much cool and dry the same color they are. I have gotten away with using Wilton icing colors with candy melts if in small portions at a time. I usually work out of large baby food jars and can tint that amount of candy without any trouble. The sea shells and the candys on the top of my baby shower cakes in my photos were done that way. Best of luck.
If you can get some white candy melts or even white chocolate chips, you can add some to a small amount of blue to get a lighter color.
thanks!
i ended up just using one color, but i'll keep your tricks in mind for next time =)
FYI - I saw some navy candy melts at Hobby Lobby last week. I know it's too late for this one but not the next one!!!

Not too late for me, I've never seen anything but the light blue melts. I was thinking why add white to those? They're already too light. Looks like I need to add buying Navy Melts to my shopping list today.
i don't think there is a hobby lobby around here...but navy candy melts sounds supercool!
