A Kitchenaid 6 qt Pro!!!! Pearl Metallic finish!!!! I cannot tell you how excited I am!! My hand mixer started literally falling apart on me as I was making royal icing on Monday, the 19th....lol. The prongs (?) of the beaters started coming apart and I had to do the rest of the mixing by hand... I was soooo frustrated. And when I gave my husband my Christmas list, while the Kitchenaid was #1, I never in a million years thought he'd actually get one for me this year- much less the EXACT one I wanted, finish & all...which just so happened to be the most expensive...lol. But he was smart...he asked my step-mother to hunt it down for him & get it & he paid her for it later...pretty impressive for a guy who waits to the last minute to shop & just buys the first few things that he sees and isn't crazy expensive...lol. My step-mother found it at Kohl's....it was $459.99!!! But it was on sale for around $420 & she used all the coupons she could get her hands on and then bought some other things & opened a credit account so that she could get MORE discounts! lol It ended up being something like $315....now that's a savvy shopper! But, according to their website, they're on sale now for $390...so, girls - go buy about 20 newspapers & dig the flyers out for all those coupons!! You could get the best for a steal!! lol
What should I make first??????? I don't think I'll be able to go to bed until I play with it!!! lol Any suggestions on how I should break it in??
I got one too (but mine is blue steel)....don't forget to go to the Kitchenaid site for their rebate offer ($50 for the professional 6qt)
If you can't find it on their site, check www.linensandthings.com
Then search for the mixer and it will have a link to the rebate offer that you can print out.
Congratulations JennT!!! As for a suggestion as to what to make to break it in, what about a nice loving cake for your wonderful hubby? Just to say Thank you!
Try a buttercream, which would normally take you a while to mix with the hand mixer...that was the first thing I did...My meringue was ready in no time!
happy baking!
Congrats! My Wife upgraded me this Christmas from my 4 quart KA to a 7 Quart Viking with 1000 Watts! I was very happy!

Wha?? I'm sorry, but that's simply way too powerful a machine and possibly terribly unsafe. In the interest of safety, I think you should pack it up and send it to me for safekeeping.
But seriously, that IS a real workhorse and quite the upgrade! I'm sure you'll be hugely happy with it. You must be beaming! (And your wife, too!)
And congrats on the new kitchen toy to JennT as well. I recommend something like a chocolate fudge cake with Italian Meringue Buttercream (which would have otherwise caused your arm to fall off mixing by hand).
Can't wait to see pics of the new cakes you both will be popping out in no time!
Thanks everyone for all of your replies! I've been a very busy girl since just after my initial post about this...lol. This is what I've made since Sunday: chocolate chip cookies, buttercream (thanks Godiva..it's a dream to make bc w/this machine!!), chocolate mud cake for DH (good suggestion susanrcp! lol ), from scratch yeast rolls...1st ever success at bread!!, and homemade butter...made four batches and left one plain while adding strawberries to one, pressed garlic/parsley to another, and cinnamon/sugar to the last one!! The strawberry butter is divine on morning toast!! Haven't tried the other three yet. I'm going to deliver little packages of these homemade butters to my MIL & her sisters over the weekend because I made soooooo much!! lol But it sure was fun doing it with my new toy! HA!
ceculsk & ape: congratulations to ya'll too! And ape, thanks for the info on the rebate!
Awesome for you. i know how you feel.. my brother bought me the Wolfgang Puck 700 watt Professional, Cafe Collection Mixer.. i was shocked.. he bought the floor model and it had one attachment missing so he got it for 1/3 of the price... its chrome.. i love it... i had an old OSAR and when my batter was the right thickness, my beater would fall out.. ha!! i told him this is the only "appliance" that i'd take for Christmas.. lol...
