I made an ice princess cake (for a 3 year old) using the Wilton stand-up bear pan. I turned it into a little girl with fondant skates and crown. I don't know how to post the pix here, but you can check it out on my website at www.pinkflamingocelebrations.com
in the 3-d cakes section.

1. rectangular cake decorated to look like a skating rink ... maybe add little figures on top...

2. carve cake to a skate shape ... fondant would be great for this one!

3. any shape cake with 3D fondant skates, mittens & scarves on top... or a round one with flat (perhaps cookies?) or fondant skates or skaters shapes around the sides... make the main cake ice blue...

4. carve a cake to look like a figure skater doing a jump or spin or whatever...

I saw a really cute one online(don't remember where). It had a pair of ice skates drawn on a sheet cake. She had lots of edible glitter and snow flakes. The borders were done in a pastel pink. It was so pretty. Something like that would be perfect for a girl. icon_smile.gif

pinkflamingo, that is cute! you have been busy! I think the mom is more wanting a sheet cake to accomadate feedings though. I was thinking about making it look like a rink, if I sprayed it blue with color mist and added some edibile glitter would that look like ice? I thought about putting snowflakes on it but I am debating on the iceskates and princess part. I am NO good with Fondant. I am trying to come up with something on it I am fixing to check out you other guys ideas too!

okieinalaska, thanks for that link it does help! I am really blank on this cake...

I did an Olympic Ice Skating Rink cake for my sis--her b-day usually falls during the winter olympics & she's a huge Michelle Kwan fan. I made 2-9 x 13 cake layers & stacked them, then cut out the middle of the top layer like the Olympic rink shape, iced the inside of the cut-out "rink," freehanded the Olympic symbol--Nagano, I think-- & let the icing crust in the fridge. I made sparkling white grape jello with water instead of seltzer (?) or whatever it called for & let it set up just a little (cool, so it wouldn't melt the icing). I poured the jello in the cake & put it in the fridge. After the jello set, I finished decorating the rest of the cake. I guess you could use blue jello or a combination of clear & blue. In my case, I wanted it as clear as possible so you could see the Olympic symbol in the bottom of the "ice."

Just another idea,

I did it about 8 years ago & don't think I have a picture, but I got the idea either from a Wilton book in the "Wilton" section at Walmart (it must have been a 1997 or 199icon_cool.gif OR a magazine that had instructions for a "pool" (made from blue jello) in a cake.

Here are some pictures.....
You could do a color flow girl on skates or mold out of MMF...... prop it up so that she looks like she is skating on the rink and make the writing on the cake look like it is her skating outline on the ice. Just an idea.... can't wait to see it. Good luck!

I think it is an ornament, but I thought it would be a cute molded MMF figure icon_smile.gif
