Hi everyone!
My friend's wedding shower is coming up pretty soon and \\i would love to make her a Bride doll cake.
I've seen the mold I can buy, but not yet knowing how to use fondant (still a newbie) how would I decorate her dress in buttercream? And how does the butterdream stick to her body? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thanks everyone!
Becca

Hi Becca,

Will you be using the pix doll or the full length Barbie?

If you use the pix then you only have to do the Wondermold unless you want to sit the cake on a round layer or sheet for looks.

With the full length Barbie, you have to do the wondermold plus an extra round or sheet cake for it to be tall enough to accommate Barbie's height.

When I did my Barbies, the yellow is full length Barbie(had to cut her legs some because I forgot and set her on a plate) and the pink is a pix doll. I pefer the pix doll better. They are covered with MMF.

I've done the doll cake in buttercream and it came out fine. Don't worry it will stick to the doll. icon_smile.gif

I do all my doll cakes in buttercream. Most kiddos don't like fondant here. As long as your buttercream is not really thin, it will hold onto Barbie just fine.

I used a full Barbie doll with only the wondermold pan. I decorated with buttercream. The dress was slim at the top and waist and then full at the bottom. It turned out fine...and that might look good for a wedding dress. The photo is in my pictures...I stacked the doll on top of another square cake. Good luck. icon_smile.gif

I do full Barbie's because I can't imagine a little girl pulling out what she thinks is a Barbie and it ends up being half a Barbie! lol!

Anyway--although I usually stack them on a sheet--I have done them separately. One thing I do is to overfill the Wondermold pan so it rises all the way to the top. It's on a cookie sheet anyway and I line the cookie sheet with parchment, so it's not a huge mess to clean up.

Also--when I do the Barbie cakes--I only stick her in to about hip level. I have found with using BC on them, if you put her in to the waist, she looks like she doesn't have a waist once you get the icing and decorating done. This way, I just build up the dress however high I need it on the waist and get the proper proportions.

I did the Cinderelly cake with fondant accents and a fondant bodice. That was the first time I had ever done fondant--couldn't figure out how to cover the skirt at the time and my engineer dh was going to do the math problem with tell me how big of a cone I needed. lol! The ruffles on Cinderella are buttercream.
