I'm going to be making & decorating some gingerbread men and other Christmas cookies this weekend...but it'll be my first time. I was wondering what is the best method or "vehicle" to use to get the royal onto the cookie....regular piping bags-disposable or other, with which tip(s); the little parchment triangles or bags, or squeeze bottles? The decorations won't be very detailed, especially since it's my first try at this...but I will be doing the faces on the gb men, dots, etc.....things like that. I'd love to know what ya'll use and what's the easiest to use when doing tiny little decorations on cookies. Thanks!
I prefer to do tiny decorations with a disposable bag and a small tip. Parchment bags sure are easy and sometimes cheaper but sometimes I can't get the hang of those things, plus they don't fit as comfortable in my hand as a disp. bag does. For general outlining and other details, I usually use a squeeze bottle. I have been wanting those squeeze bottles that tips fit on. Those would be great!! But the opening on the regular squeeze bottles is a little too big for me to do smaller details.
I'm also making cookies for the first time this weekend. for the royal icing I'm using parchment bags and for the simple fondant glaze squirt bottle.
Thanks for your replies! I've got some new squeeze bottles & even a couple that fit the tips, but I just wasn't sure how well I'd be able to write with them...lol. I might pick up some parchment bags and give them a try too.
cakelady: what's a fondant glaze? I've never heard of that before.
I definitely prefer the parchment bags. Sometimes I don't even use a tip with them.
Have fun with the cookies!
