I just LOVE the mystical and disco/hologram dusts...I ordered three jars from Cakes by Sam recently but after $10 of shipping and handling it made each end up to be a fairly pricey little jar!

I love sprinkling that stuff on a cake as a finishing touch....but does anyone know how to get it a little cheaper? Or where? I have a local cake supply where I get most of my stuff but they don't carry this more fancy dust.

Ask them if they would be interested in bringing it in...bring a little sample on how amazing it looks on the cakes..

That should get their profit mojo working..

I have the Sparkle Dust that is sold here at the CC store and found it to be the cousin of the Disco Dust icon_biggrin.gif .

I have bought sparkle dust before but it doesn't behave like the glitter, it clumps like the luster dust.

I may just have to tell my supply place, I told them about it over the phone but they prolly won't take it seriously unless I take them a sample...

Beryl's has disco dusts, and I don't think shipping is as much as Cakes By Sam. Global Sugar Art also has Disco and Mystical Dusts.

I haven't had any problems with clumping icon_rolleyes.gif . I use my small angular spatular and sprinkle it on.

It is great added over top of dusts also thumbs_up.gif

These guys are great too. I have not ordered from them, just bought a ton of stuff at the ICES convention in 2005--they have great deals on things at the conventions. Let us know how ordering goes--if it is easy, I may consider doing a phone order... icon_biggrin.gif

I saved the site! I didn't see disco dust tho???

Also when it says 10K or 24K gold, does that mean the color, or it really contains some gold? I just got some 10K and its cool regardless, just curious.

Some places have disco, some have pixie, and some have mystical--they are on in the same. icon_wink.gif

Ahhhhh that helps! I had some mystical dust and loved it...this time I could only find the pixie dust but got a "clear gold" that looks just like the "snow sparkle mystical" I had. Anyway I love it, I could sprinkle the stuff on every cake LOL! I think in a way it helps the cake look more "magical" and can draw the eye away from small imperfections. I got a hologram silver and a 10K gold too....is the hologram silver the same as the other hologram stuff I hear talked about on here?

Also if you airbrush with it, it still looks like glitter right? Or does it dissolve like the dusts?

Yes, if you airbrush, it should still look like glitter. I actually think that http://www.europeancakegallery.us (ECG Supplies) has dusts specifically for airbrushes--not sure about pixie though, but I'm sure that they do.

I have the clear gold pixie dust from Cakes By Sam and by far that is the one I use the most! thumbs_up.gif Next in line is their hologram pixie dust.

Hee Hee--taking a break here and there from the caking. Hopefully, if my hubby knows what is good for him, he will be getting an ice cream cake while he is out grocery shopping--I need to celebrate somehow! icon_biggrin.gif

what a sweet guy!

i just placed an order on the phone....

i think i ordered like 9 jars and there was only a 6 dollar shipping and handling charge.....it came to a little over 40 bucks.

he tells me they are cheaper because they are a distributer.

plus he said it would be out in the mail today.

these dusts look like glitter...real glitter on the cake.

my most fav is clear gold.

i've bought hologram silver and 24 carat gold.

i tried some new colors this time....

and i think it is a phone order only place....there was no shopping cart on the site.

i really love this stuff....and it does go a long way, my first order i got 5 jars...and i use it on almost every cake...and those jars lasted a couple months!

i'd be interested to hear what missy'a fav's are....she's the expert pixie duster!

Hee Hee! Well, Clear Gold Pixie dust from Cakes By Sam is the one I use the most--use it on almost everyting. The next would be the Hologram Pixie dust from Cakes By Sam. But, I do have to say, I believe they get their supply from ECG--hmmmm, maybe I should order direct. icon_biggrin.gif I have a ton of colors, but don't use them as often--will use purple on purple roses, etc... The ones that I find no use for is just the plain pixie dust--they is just no enough color in it so it gets lost on the cake--the same for the snow mystical dust.

Thanks, littlecake, for letting us know about your experience with ECG--they were very pleasant in person, so not sure whay I was afraid of placing an order over the phone... icon_redface.gif But, I just love doing online stuff!!

Since ECG is a distributer. Is it wholesale only? Or do they sell to the general public?

that's what he told me...that he sold to her.

i asked him if i could be a seller too....he didn't seem much interested in that...the best deal he could give was 10% off of every order of 7 of the same color.

crud!...i wanted to be the mid west distributer...ha ha!
