In asking for quick ideas to do cookies, thank you all that gave ideas, I believe it was JoAnnB who mentioned using candy clay.
I was wondering, how do you attach it to the cookie? I was going to use a paste of meringue pwd and water. Painting it on then applying my clay. Also, then, painting it alittle again to apply sparkles. how would this affect the clay? Will it cause it to get mushy?
Thanks again for all the wonderful ideas, I will definitely give them all a try while doing all my x-mas cookies. Thank you
I think you could apply it like you would fondant and chocolate...in toba garretts book..she brushes a thin layer of sieved apricot jam and then applies the fondant or chocolate to the cookie
If you can add the clay while the cookie is barely warm, it will adhere. To add it when the cookie is cool, the easiest way I found is to brush a bit of something sticky on the cookie. I have used thinned royal or even corn syrup (clear Karo) and a brush. It only takes a bit on the edges and it dries quickly.
I cut out snowflakes from fondant and attached them to a cookie covered in royal icing with a tiny bit of watered-down buttercream icing. It worked well and kept the fondant and icing slightly soft. I'm making some more tonight!
missnnaction, of course, I have her book! Okay, now I know I'm addicted to this site. I've come to the point where this is the only place I turn for help!! Everyone here is so knowledgible that I forget to look anywhere else!! I appreciate everyone's ideas. Also, it's just so exciting to "talk" to others who enjoy doing this and get their opinions. It helps to "see" things that normally you would miss or not think about.
JoAnnB, I am going to decorate these at our meeting on monday so the cookies will be cooled. If I was to do it at home, I'll remember that GREAT tip! I think to keep it simple, I will just use corn syrup but, my MAIN concern is applying the sparkles on top. Would clear vanilla make the clay soggy?
Thank again guys, for putting up with my question after question after ....
