Has anyone used the spray color? Like airbrush in a can? Does it work well, is it hard to control, does it work on any type of icing (soft or bc)?

Thanks

I have the spray cans. I think they work pretty well but they smell like peppermint and will make whatever you put it on have a bit of a peppermint taste. The first time I ever used it, it was sprayed onto buttercream. It looked really nice. Since I didn't like the taste, it's been sitting in my cupboard. I just recently used it to color some fondant "gifts" I used for decorating. Those colored okay too.

I bought a spray can of red yesterday and tried it on some paper towels and cookies that I decided not to use on the cake. It does stink something awful when you spray it and tastes even worse when it is wet. But, when it is dry there is no flavor at all that I could tell and the color helps. It doesn't work on royal icing and didn't make my whipped icing get weepy or loose.

I tried some black once... there was no control over the spray (fine if you covering the whole thing, or using a stencil, not so good if you're trying to draw with it) I also found the colour to be really washed out ... I couldn't get black no matter how much I sprayed (just got various shades of grey)

The green used to have a peppermint taste from added peppermint oil that they don't tell you about unless you read the ingredients. I got surprised by that a while back when I used it. I've heard they took it out though. There little to no control over the spray and some colors work better than others. I had trouble with black and orange. Didn't want to dry or stick. It just ran off the cake. I've since gotten an airbrush which I think is a really good investment.

Used it a couple of years ago to make the sky on a bday cake. It worked just fine and had no taste. The product is not intended for detail work.

I have used the betty crocker brand and they work well and have no funny taste or smell. Never used the wilton brand though.

I'm only intending on using it to make my elmo more red since I"m using whipped icing. My sister is more concerned with the taste than the look. THe look is still important to me though.

I've learned my lesson with whipped icing though. I will not use it again where I need rich color.

I'd love to get an airbrush but I don't do cakes enough to warrant the purchase quite yet.
