I recently posted the following cake. I made this on the w/end, and I used a new fondant named FondX. It's vanilla flavoured, and it tastes so much nicer than any other fondant i've ever tried before, BUT the real beauty of it, is that it's moisture resitant, which means it can be refrigerated. Other fondants tend to sweat after being in the fridge, this one doesn't. It stays put. It's fantastic to work with, you can roll it out really thin and it doesn't rip. A few people have asked me for more info on this one, it's actually a Canadian product, here is the website that sells it in Canada. Give it a shot, it's great!!!

Thanks so much! The reason I do not use fondant too often is because I like to refrigerate all my cakes. This will also be nice for bows and other fondant accents! icon_smile.gif

I had never heard of FondX until you posted it. I checked the link and there is no mention of it being a Canadian product, just a tag line from California. Keep clicking on various links and I end up at an Australian site that states it's Canadian...figures we would be the last to know if it did come from here! icon_confused.gif

I was actually looking at the packaging and it is indeed made in the USA. Sorry for the confusion, i just went by what it said on the website. The packaging says
"Made in USA, Caljava International, Inc * Northridge, CA 91324* Phone 8002072750*8187282707* www.cakevisions.com"
If we're able to get this all the way in Oz, then im sure you will have no problems getting it there, since it's made there.
cheers

Do they send free samples? When I ordered some fondant from ChocoPan long time ago, they send me a couple of samples of their flavors....

The Australian sites stated FondX was a Canadian made product however turns out that it is actually made in the US. When you go the link that Nati gave us, if you keep clicking it will give a list of distributers, one of which is in Ontario and it's called 'Cake Top'.

I somehow doubt though that Cake Top does sell this fondant as the owner of the company is also the owner of Virgin Ice fondant, the same fondant you find available at the Bulk Barn.

Have I confused you further? icon_biggrin.gif You are right, it is too early!!!

They sell virgin ice fondant at bulk barn, how does it compare to wiltons. i should try this one, i know wilton icing does not taste good, but thats the only one i've ever seen, not that i've looked. i'll have to try it...anybody have any thoughts on this virgin ice fondant.

I was reading up on this last night! I'll have to give it a try. I love the Satin Ice but i'm willing to try anything (almost). I like that it can be refrigerated too. I was a little dissappointed that they didn't have a chocolate flavored dark chocolate fondant. Their dark chocolate colored fondant is actually white chocolate flavored. Have you tried that or the white chocolate rasberry flavor?

CalJava is a sponsor of the Oklahoma Sugar Art show and they handed out 10 pound buckets of FondX (in the "virgin white" color) to every single National Wedding Cake Competition entrant! That's 600 pounds of fondant that they gave away.

I've tried every kind of fondant there is . . . SatinIce, Pettinice, Wilton, Chocopan . . . FondX is by far the best tasting and I love working with it.

The Aussies may have confused CA, as in California, for Canada!

I could see that however I went to an Aussie site and it was clearly stated as being "a new fondant from Canada".

At this point I just want to try some! icon_lol.gif

It seems as though FondX, which stands for Fondant eXellence, is distributed to cakevisions from CalJava - and they have some cool things on their site.

http://caljavaonline.com/aboutus.htm

It is also sold here - and talk about neat stuff - check this out. Although I think they made a mistake on their 'sale' price for FondX, since they crossed out the original and put a higher one in.

Look under the Sweet Inspirations from CalJava for the product.

Cake baker your cakes are to die for ohhh my god you are so talented!!!!!

Boonenati, thank you for the input I went and checked all the info it sounds very good. I would like it if you can tell us what are the ingredients they used, what do they add that makes better, because for me if I buy the fondant that expensive I m gonna have to increase my cake prices too.
Thank you

LOL -- thanks, Cuillere!

I'm not sure how the specific ingredients differ. Normally fondant is sort of chewy -- FondX pretty much melts in your mouth.

There are only TWO colors of FondX -- white and ivory -- the "white chocolate" fondant in different colors that CalJava sells is different.

Little price comparision:
10lbs FondX -- $31.60
5lb box of Wilton fondant on their site -- $19.99
5lbs SatinIce from Pfeil & Holing -- $15.95
5lbs Pettinice from Pfeil & Holing -- $12.95

So the price is right there in the middle of the other brands.

I am not really sure what it is that makes fondx so great to work with. Let me get the package and I will let you know what the ingredients are.
One second
Ok, here we go
Ingredients:
Sugar, Corn Syrup, Water, Partially Hudrogenated Soybean Oil and Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Gum Tragacanth, Sodium Alginate, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Guar Gum, Vanilla Flavour, Titanium Diozide, Citric Adid, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbat
I am suprised to hear that FondX costs $31.95 for 10lb in the US, in Australia 10lb costs $21.00, compared to 13lb of Orchard at $21.00, it is a LOT cheaper than it is there, but also the price difference is not great, and the quality and taste is very different.
Cheers
Nati
PS: The buckets are almost impossible to open, maybe there's a trick to it that i havent yet discovered, but it assures you that the left over fondant is airtight and not likely to crust on you

Maybe it's a bit of the "gum" that in it that makes it easy to work with.

I bought some xantham gum the other day and I was thinking of trying to add a bit of it into my fondant and see what happened. Maybe I'll try it just for kicks.

Yes, you are right look at all those gums they are using compared to the fondant I make at home. That would make it nice and elastic. I found xantham gum at the organic section so I m gonna get it, I also looked at the wilton Gum-tex the only ingredient it has is gum Karaya.
I read at a wilton forum that fondanX has a slight marshmallow taste is that true, because I found a regular marshmallow recipe tried it and from scratch to my surprise it came out right, it looked like melted marshmallows so I added 1 pound of confectionners sugar and I got myself marshmallow fondant ( it wasn't as elastic as the MMF) without the crazy marshmallow taste, the only thing I didn't add was fats or oil, but now I m gonna add gum and crisco to the next batch and see what happens.
Boonenati you are a life savers thank you.
