So many cakes use fondant now. It has such a smooth nice finished look to it. My problem with it is that is doesn't taste very good. Does anyone have any tips or special recipes to make it taste better? I haven't used it very much simply for this reason. Please help!

The Wilton Fondant tastes really bad. However, I have heard Satin Ice has a much nicer flavor. I recently puchased some...but have not tried it yet. Also there is a recipe on this site for Marshmallow fondant that is suppose to be good. icon_smile.gif

MMF (marshmallow fondant) is definitely the way to go! It's cheap & easy to make, and it tastes really good - so much better than Wilton (yuck)! Here's a link to the recipe:

Hope that helps!

Satin Ice has a wonderful flavor all on it's own and needs nothig added to it..you may want to give it a try sometime!! I only use the Wilton or MMF fondant for decorations and things..but to cover a cake, I would use the Satin Ice!

I am in Australia, and always wondered why in the USA everyone seems to bother to try making marshmallow fondant. UNTIL i tried the Wilton fondant, gee, it tasted like a mixture of wax and soap. Fondant in general is not fantastic tasting but the Wilton is baaaad. I have recently tried FondX and it tastes so much better than any of the others that i've tried. But that having been said all the other fondant's that i've tried in Australia (Orchard/Cake Art) taste 100% better than the Wilton's. Maybe give FondX a go. Im not going to be using any other from now on. It's great!! and the best thing is that it can be refrigerated and wont sweat. Sorry im going on about this one again!! I just get excited when i find a new great product.

I just made MMF for the first time and it's really good. My daughter was "helping" me make figurines and all she kept doing was eating it!

I like the mmf too ... so easy to make and my kids eat up all the extra. We were trying to figure out what had a similar taste to it and my husband thinks it tastes like those orange circus peanuts. icon_smile.gif

Grease your mixer and dough hook and throw your bad tasting fondant in piece by large chunk..and add some candy flavoring..they are oils..in your fav flavor...turn your mixer on and let it incorporate well.

every now and again turn off your machine and taste it...get it to where you like..and you've got a better tasting fondant.

Hope this helps!

I have made MMF for figurines, and the taste is definately better. I haven't covered a cake in fondant, but am wondering....since it hardens, does that make it difficult to cut and how hard is it to chew. I know this sounds silly but I've always wondered about this for wedding cakes.

I use Pettinice and almost no one throws it away. Some people come back for extra. The white tastes pretty much like marshmallows and the chocolate tastes like Tootsie Rolls. I also have some Satinice and that is pretty much the same, though a touch more expensive, at least here.

Yuck those circus peanuts are disgusting..... Please don't tell me that's what MMF taste like. LOL I would eat Wilton's fondant before I eat those circus peanuts.
