Hi,

I finally got inspired and made some cake balls.....I was reading the last post about them! I had a left over 6x3 inch round egg nog cake and left over white chocolate buttercream. I crumbled the cake added in 1 Cup of the buttercream and a splash of vanilla rum. I mixed it in the KA then formed the balls. I froze them and coated them in chocolate....OMG they were so delicious! I can't believe I waited this long to try them. The egg nog taste was fantastic in my opinion of course!

That's it...I'm going to make these for thank-you gifts for my suppliers & wedding planners.

Do they need to be chilled...or are they okay in boxes for a few days?

OK, I have some pumpkin spice cakes scraps. What would go good with them? Any ideas? Or maybe they just wouldn't make good cake balls. Spice Rum? Dipped in white chocolate?

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I posted last week about wanting to do a very thick cream cheese icing, rolling it into marble size balls, and form a carrot cake cake ball around it, then dip into white choc. I hope to try this idea out this week. I will let you all know how it goes.

I think cream cheese frosting or white chocolate frosting would go great with the pumpkin spice...yummy!

I think they would be ok for a few days...I only put buttercream and rum in mine and both of those would be ok on the counter for a few days. I didn't think I would like them, but these are really good!!

BTW, I didn't make the recipe I did what Squirrelly suggested and just mixed in the buttercream and threw in some rum for good measure icon_smile.gif

So I've also done cake balls and love them. I had a tricky time dipping them and letting them drain off enough before placing them down, before they would almost fall off my fork.

What was everyone elses method for dipping them?

Yeah, I was thinking about doing just the cake, alcohol (or coffee creamer) and BC idea, not CookieMan's recipe that has been posted before.
I can't wait!!!

I put a toothpick in them before I froze them.. Then I dipped them and pulled the toothpick out using a fork. I used a spoon to fill in the hole.

BTW, I have a really good recipe for some truffles made with nutella centers and peanut butter centers. Let me know if you want the recipe.

I freeze my cake balls first and then when I take them out of the freezer, I stick a toothpick in them. Then I drape them with chocolate...a spoon filled with chocolate in one hand and the toothpick in the other..let the excess chocolate drip back into my pan, then just sort of rub the bottom with the back of the spoon just to give it a little coating. Move on to the next one and then go back and just "twist" the toothpick and it comes right out. Dab the top with your spoon to cover the hole!

Mrs. Missey, I do the same thing!! Only difference is I usually put some type of decoration on the top to hide the hole.

I'm trying to picture the toothpick thing, could you put that on the bottom? Or is the other side already flat from sitting after being dipped in chocolate??
Does that make sense?

I guess you could put it on the bottom. I have alwayds just put it on top then dripped more chocolate on them when I take it out. Give it a try and let us know!

Missey when you make the Nutella ones...let me know how you like them!
