A friend of mine wants me to do a magic-themed cake for her soon-to-be-7-year-old son's birthday. I'm at a loss!!!!

I'm still pretty new at decorating, haven't even begun to master fondant and don't have a clue where to start.

Any ideas?

What about a cake with a wizard holding a wand. Or a witch and a cauldron. Maybe even fairy sprinkling fairy dust. Just some random ideas. I will try to think of some more.

how about a white rabbit popping out of a hat? you could use the 3D bear pan to help with making the rabbit...you would have to use fondant to make the hat and the floppy ears and maybe a magic stick to lay by the side of the hat....could even throw in a red hankerchief by it to give some color to the display....

I just started using fondant myself...I haven't had the courage to make the MMF everyone raves about here but I will tell you even the store bought kind is easier to use than i thought it would be...very similar to playing with play doh.

Good luck!

I think that a top hat turned upside down...and a rabbit peeking out of it would be cute. That's the only thing I can think of at the moment..but will keep thinking on it. icon_biggrin.gif

What about a black magicians hat, upside down and a wand, like to pull a rabbit out of the hat? Maybe if you are adventurous...stick a rabbit half way in.

The other one I thought of but would be much harder....

have a rectangular cake, cut in half and have one half have the head and arms sticking out and the other have have the feet sticking out and a saw in the middle...you know, that human sawing trick that all magicians do...but depends on the age of the child...it could look a little gory if not done correctly...I think the rabbit in the hat might be less scarier looking....

I got a chance to find a picture of a rabbit in a hat cake.

Hope that helps, ~Denise

Denise, I love that cake! It is sooo cute and it looks pretty simple. Maybe 3 rounds stacked, a cake board covered with MMF, sports ball for the rabbit's head .....

I have a similar cake (just in pink) in an old wilton yearbook from the 70's. If you want I could send you the directions for it. I was planning to use it for a magic party also. It is made with 3 6" cakes, so it would feed maybe 15 people. Let me know. Keli

This rabbit would be very easy to make with fondant, Or another idea is to get the SnoBall cupcakes (the ones with the coccunt on them) and use that as the body and head. Sorry, so many posts! Keli

maybe a few cake crumbs by the hat and a little icing on the rabbits paw to give the illusion that the hat and rabbit was at one time sitting on the cake

Just wanted to add that the mini 3D bear pan makes an adorable little bunny. You just trim off the bear ears and push in some graham cracker sticks for the bunny ears. There's one in my pics if you want to see what I'm talking about. I made it for my niece's 1st b-day.
