Hi All!

I have a question...last week in class for course 1, I asked the instructor if I could look at her course 2 book. We finish up course 1 this week and I wanted to figure out if I should wait for two months until she teaches course 2 or go to a different location for it. Well, not only would she not show me the book but she got weird about it and said, "You will get it when you show up for course 2". I thought it was weird and wondered if that's a Wilton thing or if she just wants to make sure she fills up another class or something.

Anyone can get anything online so I just picked up the new course 2 and 3 booklets on Ebay. All I wanted was to know what was entailed in the classes, ya know. Now I know. I still planned on taking the class because I know there are tips you get from the actual class time that you just can't get from the booklets but still I thought the reaction odd.

That's frigging retarded. I always show my students the Course 2 and 3 books because it makes them want to take the advanced courses!

In fact, any students that register for one of the advanced classes on the last night of Course 1 or 2 get their next course book from me right then and there. She's just weird. icon_wink.gif

Hobby Lobby actually sells these books to the public (and sometimes they're nice enough to include the blank course completion certificate LOL).

I always show my students the books through out the courses. I do keep them to hand out the first night of class, but I am never ugly about it, and do let them see it if they would like to.

Thank so much for the validation. I just didn't get her reaction. I planned to take the other courses but I just like to be prepared and wanted to know what was in them.

Other than that, she's been a good instructor, but I felt like she was holding the books hostage or something until I registered for her classes...which I'm not taking. No offense to her but they schedule the classes staggered so I can't get into a course 2 at my store for 2 months so I'm taking it somewhere else so I can just keep going.

You would think she would have used the other books to say, "Hey, look at all the cool things you learn in the next ones." Oh well.

As far as buying the books, Ebay was a great find for me. I think I paid less than $5 for the total and they were shipped next day.

I haven't taken any of the courses, but last week I bought the course 2 (or was it 3 - it's the flower one) book at A.C Moore. They sell them, just like they sell the Wilton yearbooks.

Like the other instructors that answered, I always give the book out to students as soon as they show me they have registered. I also will pull one out if they want to see it. Actually, I know my Wilton supervisor encourages it! It must be frustrating also with staggered classes. I always do mine 1, 2, 3 so in three months they are done. Students are more likely to return.

Perhaps She felt as though you would not take the class if you knew what material was in it. I personally think it was a bit much on her part. I think that's a Wilton policy. My instructor would hold on to our books on the last night even though we paid for the class and bought our kit. I would have loved to have had The book go home and read it then step in to the class feeling totally prepared on the first night. She did however let us take a look at the books.

I don't know what her problem was, but I always show the students all the books.

I actually said "That's friggin retarded" and I was referring to the instructor's oddly proprietary behavior of disallowing her student to browse through the book. icon_confused.gif

Nope, it is not Wilton's policy to hold onto books until the first night of class. If they pay for their course, there's no reason why not to give them their books, especially if the store has a no refund policy on tuition. I can understand why a store would frown upon it if they offered refunds for tuition, but if not....it's no big thang.

I decided to stick with this instructor for the next phase of training as Course 1 ended tonight. She's actually a really good instructor and gives lots of side tips so I like her a lot. I was just confused about the whole book thing. I could be making more of it than it was, but it just seemed weird to me and almost turned me away from the classes altogether. I went tonight and I was just a mess. I forgot my icings at home. Had to buy some there and it was horrible to work with. Lessons learned. The instructor was really patient and helped me even though I didn't have the icing I needed so she earned some brownie points with me for patience.

So I'm going to look forward to Course 2 with this instructor and hope the book thing was a simple misunderstanding. I have the books now so I can at least practice the coursework. I'm so excited about this. What a fun hobby!!!
