Good for you! Work is usually the first place people discreetly try to sell things. The monthly mtg was a great way for you to out yourself. Just make sure your cake discussion is at lunch time after work so no one can accuse you of slacking on the job. icon_smile.gif

Work is how I got started as well. I started "volunteering" the cakes for peoples birthdays and things. That really works!!! Congrats to you!

Thanks!! I actually just upped my prices quite a bit...almost double..I was charging nothing and then my uncle (he's the best business man I know) he asked me..."are u making enough doing this??" and then we figured everything out with time involved and I jacked up my prices...the thing is...my customers still think they're getting a deal (And i'm making MONEYYY!) hahaha

It wouldn't be the same without all you guys on this site though!! I love it!!

Congratulations to you. I started much the same way. I had a piece of cake left over from my course one final and didn't want it. A coworker ate it and demanded that I make him one. After that it just snowballed. Then people started asking me for cookies, cheesecakes, pound cakes, muffins and more. I took the cake decorating course out of boredom and curiousity, I had no idea that I'd make a business out of it. Best of luck to you in all you do!

Congrats to you Cakefairy!! Now, make sure you hand out cards (even if they just have your name, phone # and a cake picture on them) with those cakes so that your coworkers can refer their friends to you as well! It's really great that you got your pricing set up already, so you can earn a profit (as opposed to only gaining experience) right from the get-go! You'll have your portfolio chuck full of cake pics in no time! thumbs_up.gif

Hi!

I live in a town that is expanding quite a bit. There is building going on in 2 subdivisions right now. I plan to take a small "welcome" cake to each house as it is sold & the new owners move in. I will be sure to include a bussiness card & I think this will be a good way to add new customers! This would work for new neighbors, teachers, member of the church, etc.
Thought I would pass it on.......
