Do you mind PMing me how you made the chocolate leaves? I don't want to enter the contest, but I would love to make leaves for a cake I'm making for Thanksgiving.

OR...if someone knows how to make the colorful leaves, can someone tell me how? Thanks so much!

It's not my cake, but I'll take a stab at it ...

There are a couple of techinques you can use!

1. paint differetn colours of melted chocolate on the back of a real leaf... chill then peel the leaf off ... just make sure the leaf is clean / non-toxic! You could try this with silk leaves, but I'm not sure how well it would release.

2. Make modelling chocolate (chocolate & corn syrup) then roll it out thin and use cutters & veiners, then paint them (or use different colours of chocolate)

3. Okay, that's all I've got for ideas. Anyone else?

navywife060901,

The cake I'm referring to was entered in the new contest. It's one of the most recent uploads.

Thanks, MelC. I figured you would have to use real leaves, but there's not many leaves by me anymore. Plus, I love how the person colored it. They looks so realistic!

Before this cake was in the contest there were explanations in the comments. The creator said that she had used Wilton candy melts to paint on the back of leaves, let them set and then peeled off.

Good luck! I think they're beautiful!
