I want to make a smash cake that looks like a pillow to hold a little tiara ... any suggestions on how to do this?

Hello,
The only thing I can think of is either make a small square cake and slope the sides down so the look like a pillow or use a small round cake and make it look like a quilted cushion by carving the top and putting "buttons" on it.
HTH,
Heather

Cool! I only know one other person with our birthday!
Okay, let me see if I can explain this and make sense! I would take the square cake (probably just one 2" layer, torted and filled if you wish), freeze it, then start from the center and slightly carve off at an angle toward one edge. Repeat for all four sides. Then I would flip it over and do the same on the bottom so that the sides all sloped in and the middle was "puffy". Then you could ice it in BC or fondant and put a rope border or just pipe a line all the way around on the edge.
I hope that makes sense. I have a hard time explaining things in writing.
Good luck,
Heather

P.S. I found this one photo but its not carved on the sides. Still cute thought and probably easier that my way!
