Okay my friends........I received a call yesterday.......this lady said her husband just bought a gas startion.......she wants a cake in the shape of a pump with a car next to it.......can anyone picture this...it's supposed to be all red velvet cake......does buttercream icing taste good on red velvet cake?
Also, I can't seem to find the lady who was baking the wedding cake this past weekend.......she was filling in for someone else......she didn't have the right equipment for a tiered cake.......how did things turn out for her?

red velvet is just yellow cake mix with a little bit of cocoa and red dye. So really it would be a chocolate cake. If your using cake mix out of a box, red velvet can be at a higher price than just yellow. somewhere here I have Cali4dawns doctored cake mix for red velvet. I will look for it.. As far as the design..hmmm maybe you can make a scenery..Blue sky and a dirt bottom. With a Happy birthday across the top bordered in some sort of design for gas station. Or maybe you could make a poll like they have at the gas station with the gas price. And instead of "unleaded" you would put "his name" on it and underneath instead of the amount put his age. They have the amount then the cents at the right corner top. You could put his age and the letters Yrs. at the right hand corner. icon_confused.gif (I hope I am makeing sense here). You could do that along with what she requested. A gas pump with the dollar amount reading his age. Or even his birthdate. and then a car of some sort. I would think that the glaze everyone does would work out great. or BCT. I believe ladycakes showed us her dolphin cake and it was I believe glaze. It was beautiful.. thumbs_up.gif The dolphins actually looked plastic. I hope I helped you out..LOL and not confused you icon_confused.gif

I found it here is Cali4dawn's red velvet doctored cake:
Red Velvet

1 (18.25 oz) box yellow cake mix
5 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup low-fat or regular buttermilk
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (I actually use Nestles chocolate milk powder)
1 ounce red food coloring (the cheap watery kind from the grocery store)

In a large bowl, combine the dry cake mix and only the ingredients listed above. Mix and bake as directed on the box.
