I sold my first cake! I work per diem in an Emergency Room and I regularly bring baked goods into work. Last month when I started the Wilton I class (finally), they became the recipients of my many practice cakes. For the past few years I have made my godson's birthday cakes and this past year I made my daughters' cakes (I have 3, ages 4 and under - we always had a big picnic where I was making so much other stuff that I ended up buying the cake).
One of the Physician's Assistants that I work with (she's also seen pics of my kid's cakes) asked me to make her son's birthday cake. Yippee! They were having a John Deere theme for his 4th birthday. She and I looked on CC and saw a cake in the gallery by Amylou that we both liked (and that I thought I could do). Thanks for the idea Amylou! (link to Amylou's cake):

Here is my attempt at creating a version of her cake. Yellow cake with chocolate BC filling with BC icing. They loved it! In fact she asked me to make her sister's baby shower cake and one of the nurses has asked me to make her twins' (2 year old girls) birthday cake.
Sorry this is so long. Thanks for letting me share!
Good job on the cake, and congrats on the order! You're on your way...to what, I don't know
Wow you did a great job. AWESOME. That's great. I hope that orders just keep flowing.
Good Luck
Thanks everyone! My neighbor (also a recipient of many a practice cake) has also been telling anyone who will listen about my cakes. Who knows, with some more practice and word of mouth, maybe, just maybe I can build this into something.
That is a very handsome cake...you did a terrific job.
Congratulations on your first order...keep'em coming
Thanks Stephanie. My next order is also being delived at work (Per request of the customer. She liked my last cake so much that she wants to show it off, see if she can help me drum up some more orders). The hospitals a big place, we'll see what happens. My next order is for a birthday cake for twin 2 year old girls. The mom requested a Shrek theme. I guess it's their favorite movie right now. I have a few ideas but, I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I want it to stand out! I'm also trying to figure out how to make a Shrek cake a little more girlie but still stay true to the theme. Wish me luck.
great job , and congrats
Maybe a princess fiona theme ....pink and green ...with a FBCT or a crown like priness fionas...
Nice cake! Congratulations on your orders too, you are going to be one busy baker soon! Isn't it great?
Thanks all. I love it here! Everyone is so kind and encouraging. Helpfull too. I'm so thankful to have found this site.
lastingmoments - Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking of doing a FBCT (it would be my first). I was at the bookstore last night looking for a Shrek book. No luck, I'm going to look on-line today. Maybe I can find some kids coloring pages I can print. I like the idea of princess fiona and using pink and green. I was originally looking for a pic with her and Shrek, but now I might focus just on her. Maybe try a royal icing tiara like the one in the galleries by TickledPink.
how about putting an eddible image? I called my local supermarket and they will do the edible image for like 8 or 9 dollars for me to put on the cake... then you can compliment it with the tiara for the ultimate WOW factor?
I'm still taking the Wilton 2nd class ... and my daughter saw that tiara and has requested it for her next b-day which is in July ..I hope I can get the nerve to do it by then .... let us know how your attempt goes ...good luck
Your cake came out great and congrats on your orders!
If you wanted to do a 3D shrek cake, you could do this one with the wonder mold pan with Happy Birthday written on it instead of just married.

So many great ideas. I hope I'm not getting too far ahead of my ability. I guess I'll only know if I try.
sofiasmami - I'm still taking Wilton II as well. My last class is next week. I tried doing an edible image a couple of months ago but, I couldn't get it off the paper. I had purchased two, just in case I had trouble but that wasn't enough.
lisa - thanks for the link, what a great idea. I didn't see that one when I was looking. I don't think I would have thought of using the Wondermold pan.
