I have been invited to set a tablescape at a fundraiser in April 2006. This is for a school for special education children and each year they host a banquet. Next year, it is being held at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts and the lady who invited me to do a table wanted a "Cake Artist". I was floored and flattered.
Don't know what I am going to do, but I have several ideas running rampant in my head. The lady went to one in Dallas and the cake artist there had done a wedding cake for the centerpiece (dummy cakes) and then each guest at the table ( received a small cake in a box with the theme.
The theme in 2006 is "Cherish the Children". I know this is way early but does anyone have any suggestions? I ws thinking along the line as the Food Network's Cake Competition where they made toys into the design of the cake. What do ya think???
Sounds like you have things well under control. Keep us posted with your thought process and let's see if we can help you out.
Congratulations on this great opportunity!
you could do a story book themed cake kidswith special needs love to be read too. or if u can go to a special needs school and ask if you can ask the kids what they like and do one idea or involve all the ideas on to ur themed cake..
I am sure I will think of other ideas I want to adopt a special needs child and have a really great friend with her little boy sam who is special needs I would ask him but he is just learning to sign with his hands

Congratulations! What a great opportunity. I love the storybook theme idea. I have 3 girls (4 and under) and they love books. I'll have to ask my sister (a Special Education teacher) if she has any ideas. I can't wait to see what you end up doing. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be perfect.
