I dont know if it is me or the cake mix!?!?! But the last two cakes Ive made with my 9x13 pan, the cake is so thin. Like there is not enough cake mix. I tried a different brand this time because it was on sale icon_redface.gif Maybe I should buy what I know.

HI

First of all, how much batter are you using. For the 9 x 13, I use 1 and 1/2 mixes. I also use Duncan Hines. It seems to be the most reliable. They don't change their recipie like most of the other.

hope this helps.

I can remember which brand it was. I did only use one mix. I will try a mix and a half next time. I have a potluck at work on Wednesday. Maybe I will be making a cake and try your recommendaiton out. Thanks

Different brands and different flavors with in the brands will make different amounts of batter.

Philsbury and BC make between 4-5 cups.

DH makes 5-6 cups depending on the flavor. I know the Golden butter is 6 cups. The white is closer to 5 and the chocolate and lemon are in the middle-ish.

Also as the above poster said, you really need about 7 cups of batter in the 13x9 to get a full 2in cake.

I just checked the brand. They were Betty crocker. I've been buying DH normally. Mystery solved. Thanks

TexasSugar, Thanks for the info on the cake mixes. You just gave me my tip for my turn for tip of the month for the cake club I belong to!! I really appreciate it. I was struggling to come up with something new this time.

Glad I could help. If you do use the same brand all the time you can always measure the flavors as you use them and keep the notes somewhere you can find them so you know how much each flavor makes. icon_smile.gif
