I love this thread!
Ok, here goes:
- Procrastinator
- Don't like cake
- Hate buttercream
- Hate cleaning
- Hate when people watch and say "What are you going to do next?" because I have no idea. It will come to me. This goes double for my DH.
- Hate when DH says "I thought it was going to be _____". I changed my mind.
- I like baking, but it just takes soooo long! If I could skip the baking I might not procrastinate on the decorating. But probably not.
- I sometimes use store-bought pudding for filling in kid cakes. I just don't want to spend the time making scratch filling when I know that the kids like the pudding better or really don't care. (hanging my head in shame)
- I dream about cakes. When I have one coming up I lose sleep thinking about all aspects of it and "making it" in my head again and again.
i like to bake and decorating is fun but i HATE making the damn icing. I told my mom when i get my own bakery the first person im hiring is an icing maker haha. the next one will be a dish washer (although i find washing dishes to be a big workout depending on what you make).
i would also add i hate icing the cake but with the melvira (did i botch that spelling?) i dont mind so much.
wow...what a thread...ok here goes
my electric bill is in shutoff mode, but my luster dust is on it's way by mail
i love to eat the leftover buttercream.
i tell my hsuband i'm too exhausted to do dishes only so i can check the recent cc post
i yell at my kids to get out of the kitchen because i'm doing "business cookies"
i procrastinate like crazy
i love the baking, but not the prep work for decorating.
i'd love to quit owrk and stay home decorating cookies even though i like my job.
wow...i feel better already....

Another, when my in-laws say they love my cakes or that they look so nice, I act like it's cause they've never had anything other than regular white or chocolate store bought, and in reality I'm pretty much gloating inside
Welcome to the Dark Side. And don't pay any attention to what Melvira might say about vanity!
I like royal icing but I like it fresh before it sets, I don't eat much BC but I can't help but suck the royal icing tips.
I HATE sugar cookies but like the dough.
I taught my 8 year old to melt candy and mold single color candies so I don't have to. He's really good at it and he thinks I'm being nice to let him when really I'm just lazy.
I used to eat candy and stuff all the time but now I've been slowly losing weight without trying.
I make huge cakes for my kids because I can and we end up throwing most of it out.
My oldest can tell what pans are used for almost any cake because we spend far too much time looking at cakes.
OMG...I forgot about this! Thank goodness it's only me and DH now. He hears me cussin' up a storm and comes in to see "what's wrong". Come to think of it, I hardly ever cussed before I started decorating cakes!

Ok after reading 7 pages of replies to this thread someone PLEASE tell me that I am not the only one who can cuss like a trucker when I'm decorating and things are not going right!!!!!

Just finished ready this whole post. Wow! I'm not alone in all my quirks.
1. I hate cleaning but would never consider throwing away my tips to keep from washing them. I'm too poor for that.
2. I love cake batter. Once when I was a kid, I made up a cake mix and ate almost the whole thing after school. This is the first time I ever admitted that to anyone and I am 57 years old!
3. Although I love cake batter, I love cookie dough even better. My kids and grandkids are the same way. They'd rather take home dough that the finished product!
4. I thought sucking the frosting out of the tips was part of the just reward for doing the cake.
5. I did hate icing the cake until "Melvira's Method" came to life. I still love you for that, Melvira.
6. I am an avid collector of many things and when I got involved in decorating cakes, I went crazy buying pans on Ebay (the character ones).
7. I secretly detest character cakes! I vowed that Spiderman died last weekend at my house.
8. I hate black icing especially when it has a connection to Spiderman (see #7).
9. I love it when I go somewhere and their cake tastes terrible (I snicker and know mine is better)
10. I am addicted to CC and have spent the biggest part of the afternoon on here.
Diane
I leave dishes stacked up on the counter for days... Until DH goes crazy and cleans them or I can't stand it anymore.
When DH wants to eat some icing, I get really mean and yell at him to get out of my kitchen, but I secretly eat the icing the whole time I'm decorating (thus having to wash spatulates and change tips constantly).
I snap at my autistic son when he hovers by my legs when I work, and then I feel really bad about it. He's very curious and is especially interested in the cake process, and when I get stressed out it drives me nuts.
I always wipe my hands on my apron, even though my hand towel is right there...
Obviously alot of us have it. If I bake cakes and make icing the day before
I don't get so stressed.
How many of you make ganche.........boy howdy!!!! is that good to eat. Had some left over
I love it when I go to a kids birthday party and my daughter tells me that my cakes are much better (in private).
I'm on CC so much that DH calls it "crack central". He says, Are you looking at your cake crack AGAIN??
I eat way too much buttercream. I keep hoping that as I do more cakes I will get sick of it but it doesn't seem to work that way.
I think I'm the most unartistic person I know. I love getting compliments on my work but then I feel guilty because I think about how I got my ideas from CC and that anyone could do just as good a job. Like I brought some NFSC/royal icing Valentine's cookies into work and everyone was like wow so pretty and smooth, and I'm thinking if you read the tutorial you could do it too.
I've used canned icing on my family's birthday cakes!!
I'm the opposite of a procrastinator to the extreme, if I have a cake due Friday I work backwards in my head starting on Sunday and plan out exactly what I need to do each night. When its time to decorate the bags are filled and all I need to do is start,
Its very, very OCD!!
another one...
I read cake decorating books, Wilton books, wedding cake idea books, and any other book illustrating cakes to my kids (ages 3, 4, and 6) instead of regular books. But whenever they see beautiful cakes or cookies, my 6 year old can tell everyone how it's made "this is icing, but the decorations are fondant" or something like that, and everyone is very impressed. she also does a great job decorating cookies. and she's not behind in reading in her class and really enjoys reading, so i don't have to feel (very) guilty.
crack central and cake porn!!! Ha, ha, ha......
I have two more confessions
I convinced DH to buy us a laptop to make it easier for me to work anywhere. The truth is I just wanted to be able to lay in bed and read CC!
I also am compulsive about eating sweets while reading CC (but not in bed). If there is anything sweet in the house I will compulsively eat it until it is all gone. My husband always wonders why I'm not very hungry and hardly eat anything for dinner.
ok. I have to deliver a cake in the morning. It's baked, cooled. i just need to make the chocolate frosting, dust with powdered sugar and write Happy Valentines Day on it.
But instead, I ordered a bunch of luster dust and other necesseties from CC and am still on the computer!
ok, I'm signing off now.
enjoy Valentines day!
Well, here are just a couple true confessions. I will add to it later.....
I almost always burn muffins, I don't know why but they just don't turn out.
Today I threw out 2 sets of cake that were moldy! I made a wedding cake on Jan 27th and of course these were a couple of them that didn't make the final cut. My daughter suggested I save them so we could at least enjoy them ourselves So I put them in cake containers and they've been sitting on the counter--over there---and thank goodness today was a SNOW DAY off work, so I deep cleaned my kitchen and threw them away.
I already posted my confessions but I have another..bigger one..
VERY BAD language when I decorate cakes...not just mild either..all the BIG words.
My DH always asks if I am having fun yet?...to which I reply, I love it..because I do.
I confess...
My housekeeping style would qualify for a FEMA relief, my home kitchen is over-run by dishes 11:12 days, I've got kitchen stuff covering 1/3 of my basement in storage bins.. But when it comes to my licensed space, I'm an OCD neat freak and gripe if anyone so much as uses a sink without my permission or the wrong one to wash their hands. Or, touches anything in my "operating room"
I also am in the procrastinating, cake batter loving more than the cake, non-cake/frosting-eating crew... Since I got my license I literally have stopped eating cake unless it is over-the-top GREAT.
-I always get mean mommy syndrome, I always feel really guilty.
-Sometimes I act more stressed than I am so dh will clean the kitchen.
-PROCRASTINATOR!!!!
-I eat way too much icing
-I always plan on saving the tops for cake balls but then dh and I always end up eating them.
-I fill the sink with hot soapy water so I won't lick everything but I usually lick it anyways before putting it in the sink.
-I hate my too small kitchen with tiled counter tops.
-I've spent more on supplies than I've made
Ok Tip and Maria... I've got two things to say to you...
1. I hope you know I am just teasing you with the things I said...
and
2. I am going to let your slander slide right now because I just got home from the hospital. I was taking my Mother to a colonoscopy appt. and a driver ran a red light (speeding) and crushed in my side of the car over a foot, right on top of me. Pinned me in. They had to break out the jaws of life and cut me out of the car. So... right now I am hurting, but enjoying a little morphine and vicodin cocktail, so you can pretty much get away with calling me names right now if you'd like. But when these drugs wear off, you'd better watch it! I might have to work you over!!
Hehehehe... look at the funny little polka-dot pony... he wants me to dance with him!! Oh yah... good drugs.
Oh... one more little confession... Honestly, I am a good person, although I like to give people a lot of crap sometimes, and have a sharp edged sense of humor, but that not withstanding, I am 99.99% good hearted and kind, still I mercilessly mock my MIL and SIL's cooking abilities behind their back to my mother. They are SO bad. I mean... baaaaaad. But I only say it to my Mom because I wouldn't want to hurt them. They are good at other things.
This is the funniest thread yet!! I've only had time to read halfway thru the posts but I'll comment now so I can remember where I left off.
I love baking.
I love cake (especially white) and really good bc. Hate working with rolled icing. I think I need a class.
I plan ahead out the wazoo and am very organized, but sometimes don't get started as early as I'd prefer. I'm almost always working late at night on a project.
I hate trying to get dark vivid colors. How the heck do you get a good red anyway?
As far as tips, some I suck and some I blow.........sorry I couldn't resist that one. Slap me someone! I soak tips for days sometimes. hate washing the buggers.
I'm good with cleanup. I put almost everything in the dishwasher and I have plenty of spatulas so I can toss one in the dishwater and get a clean one.
I hate the dry skin I get washing my hands so much.
I have several duplicate tips so I don't have to stop and wash to change colors.
I sometimes throw a Jiffy mix into my batter just to make extra for cupcakes. Poor dh sees most of my cakes leave the house.
I prefer being alone when baking and decorating. Hate trying to bake etc with someone trying to gab.
I'll think of more later, I'm sure...............
OMG Melvira. I hope you are okay. Save some of that cocktail for tomorrow because that's when you'll really be sore. Was your mom with you when it happened. I will be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
Diane
Thank you Diane! Yes, she was with me, a little shaken, but she's ok. And believe me... I have a happy little bottle of vicodin to get me through the next few days! And, I have a rotation of my sister and hubby to stay home with me and chase the baby for the next few days too because I can't pick him up or anything. I was worked over pretty good!
OMG Melvira I'm glad to hear there were no serious injuries. Sound like the whole thing was pretty brutal and scary. Also glad you have people to take care of you and your little one. Take it easy.
I came here for one more confession. I have a golden retriever and almost always find dog hair in my cake and/or icing. Even thought he's no where near me when baking I can't get rid of his hair. That is one reason I'm scared to make cakes for people I don't know.
I know that if I just throw my decorating bags into the dishwasher on the top rack - coupler, tips on and all, not even inside out - that my DH will go nuts and "reprimand" me with "You can't throw bags in the dishwasher like this - they don't come clean!" And then HE will clean them!!
TOTAL setup! Evil I know!
I hate that I found this passion so late in my life - meaning after college, marriage, and kids. I wish I'd known this was what I wanted to do back in high school. Now I sometimes resent that I can't devote the time to this that I would like to. That's my big secret! And I like to eat the icing.
my sentiments exactly.....i would rather be pushing tacks under my nails from stressing over a cake than to be sitting in a cubicle wishing i could...i am envious over anyone that can do this full time
As far as tips, some I suck and some I blow.........sorry I couldn't resist that one. Slap me someone!
I prefer being alone when baking and decorating. Hate trying to bake etc with someone trying to gab.
you are so bad! i like to be alone too when doing my baking and decorating
