I've always thought you had to use oil based candy colors.

Of course as with anything there are others that said they have used regular colors with out a problem. If I was going to try that I'd start with a small amount to see if it will work for you.

Good morning, I was at Micheal's the other day and they had color just for the candy melts. I don't know if you have a Micheals where you live, but the color was where they keep the candy melts, hope this helpsicon_smile.gif

Americolor has something called Flo-Coat. They say this is what you add in with regular colors to your candy melts to avoid any problems. I always just use the oil based colors.

I colored mine using the wilton colors. I tried the regular kitchen ones and those messed up the candy.

Wilton regular icing tints are water based, candy coloring is oil based.People have used a bit or regular color to tint candy melts but if you use alot to achieve a deep color it will cause the candy melts to glob.

I've used the wilton colors to make pastels and it worked great. Don't know what would happen if you tried to take white to black though. It might do like Kiddiekakes said...glob up. Have you looked for black candy melts? They make them in all colors.

The candy melts are oil based, so when you add anything with water it ruins the whole batch.

They make coloring specifically for candy melts, and they work great. Be sure to buy a smaller bottle if you won't use it often because it goes a LONG way.
