I'm thinking about starting a cupcake business and gradually moving into the cake business. I'm currently a non-traditional, full-time student at a university and I'm studying Housing & Design. My passion however is FOOD...I work part time as a server at weddings/parties for a local caterer. I just did my first order of cupcakes Friday night and delivered them Saturday morning. They loved them. I am going to use the doctored cake mixes this week to see how I like them---I used made from scratch for the cupcakes...somewhat time consuming. Does anyone have any suggestions on the subject? I think I would like to open a bakery in my town (there isn't any here) when I graduate next year from college. Can you see this as a way of income? I'm divorced with a child but will be getting married in the next 2 years.

LOT of research to do, start now so you'll be ready and know everything you need when you open in a couple of years. How many hours a day do you want to spend making cupcakes, and can you make enough money to cover your overhead and make the income you are hoping to make? See the thread on making 6 figures..... interesting reading.
