I thought it would be enlightening and helpful to find out what kind of unusual tools people use when they decorate their cakes.
For instance I use a letter opener and a small cheese spreader often.

I am not exactly sure. Edge Protector that you buy to paint wall edges is the most unusal thing I have. I use it too smooth the tops and sides of cakes.

I made a chocolate basket out of a clean medicine cup, and I also used one of my kids cleaned indoor bulldozer toys to make a candy shovel.

I also bought a set of the child's magnetic alphabet letters from the dollar store to imprint letters into my icing and then just fill in with the small star tip.

I use a deviled egg holder to sort assorted chalk colors. It helps coloring gumpaste go a lot faster.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but when I was taking my Wilton course, the instructor showed me a great trick...I put my icing in saran wrap, roll it up and twist the ends..Then you clip one end and slip it into you piping bag (open end down)....It makes clean up so much easier..You can do it with parchment also....I do it all the time now.
